Well after eight months of tests and speculation and trials by my own GP, including a terrible two months on Omeprazole, when I couldn't eat at all.

I finally got to see a gastroenterologist who told me I had crohn's within 10 minutes of meeting him.
He has since put me through an endoscope and an MRI to confirm the diagnosis, and has now started me on a course of Budesonide.

I was pretty upset to hear I had Crohn's , my aunty has it and has really been through the ringer.
So far ( and I am really touching some serious wood right now) I seem to be getting off lightly. Just reading some of the stories on here confirms that for me.

My problem is inflammation in the small bowel, which has left me iron deficient and loosing weight rapidly. It also causes me a fair amount of pain and difficulty eating as well as some bouts of sickness, but thankfully very little trouble in the bathroom (so far).

I am scared about what could happen in the future, and really unsure of where to start regarding changing my diet and so on, but I am sure this site will be a good place to work through all that and find useful advice.

Anyway thats enough waffling for now , just wanted to say Hi really. :bigwave:

Hello and :welcome: to the forum, I am sorry to hear about the diagnosis :( The Budesonide will be used to hit the inflammation so hopefully you will start to feel better soon. Has you doc mentioned what the plan is going forward or are you due back to see them soon to discuss this?

Diet can be a tricky area as everyone is different on what does/does not work for them, keeping a food diary though is always something that can perhaps help you pinpoint problems foods and also have a look at our diet and sups forum to see what others have tried: http://www.crohnsforum.com/forumdisplay.php?f=17.

It is never easy when first diagnosed but knowyou have come to the right place for lots of helpful info and support

Hey there! Welcome to the community :) Thank you for joining.

If you're losing weight, you may want to discuss the idea of enteral nutrition with your doctor to start. Not only can that help with the weight, but it can help put you in remission as well. Malabsorption is what usually leads to the weight loss which can cause other complications as well. The enteral nutrition is much easier for your body to absorb.

With active disease in your small bowel, did they test for vitamin B12 deficiency? Or vitamin D and folate? If not, I'd request that they test for all three as deficiencies are common and supplementation can make a big difference.

Again, welcome! :)
