Can somebody help interpret my results? To cut a long story short my consultant took me off Azathioprine in October as it was playing about with my WBC and j ended up being Neutropenic and hospitalized until my count was over 2.0

I am apparently in remission but have been feeling sick since mid December. Got results back yesterday with a note to repeat bone profile in 3 weeks decided to go and get hard copy as receptionists can't give full explanations. I'm feeling pretty lousy and GP can't/won't prescribe anything for my Crohns as consultant has to do this and I can't even get an IBD nurse to call me back.

So here it goes

Bone Profile - calcium 2.15 nmol/L

FBC
White 3.6 ** x10^9/1 range (4.0-11.0)
Red 4.18. X10^12/1 range (3.80-5.80)
Haemoglobin 135. G/l (range 115-165)
MCH 32.3 ** pg (range 27.0-32.0)
Platelet count 166. X10^9/1 range (150-400)
Neutrophils 2.1. X10^9/1 range (2.0-7.5)
Lymphocytes 1.2 ** x10^9/1 range(1.5 -4.0)
Monocytes 0.2. X10^9/1 range (0.2-0.8)

ESR 2. Mm/hr range (1-12)
CRP 2. Mg/L range (0-10)

Can anybody help with there experience? I know that sometimes Dr should look past the results and see the symptom's but feel I'm getting nowhere other than walking about as if my head is up my derriere.

Did the report also have normal ranges or expected values for these measurements? Those can vary a bit from lab to lab depending on the method they use to measure them. Without those ranges these results become sort of disembodied and hard to interpret.

At first glance it appears everything is normal except the WBC which is just a bit below the normal range. maybe still because of the Aza. lab results can be normal and miss a debuting or mild to moderate flare. Listen to your symptoms most importantly and keep contacting your GI consultant. So the GI took you off Aza and didnt plan an appointment with you? You definately need a fallow up to know what is the plan for you up next that Aza is a failure. How many times did you call the nurse? call again and if no return consider going in person to talk to her or ask your GP to call the GI department.

Were you on the minimal dose of Aza? if you were well on aza, maybe you could have stayed on a lower dose. Drs usually play with dosing when WBC is an issue in hope to find the dosage that is right for the patient. A medication that works for a patient must be fully explored before quitting, as our options are limited. Sometimes remission can be maintained even if the dose is lowered.

I was on 200mg of Aza and just got to the point my body wasn’t tolerating it after 3 years even with reducing the dose. Came off it early October in th while my WBC would improve which it did initially however it now seems to be going in reverse.

Only plan at last review was see you next year and if you take not well we will come up with alternative plan then.

I think I’ll defin need to push again on Monday as I’m currently lying in bed feeling like my upper right quadrant is being battered with an iron bar!
