I am writing because I started 6-MP on Friday (10/4) and then the doc called saying my TH^ (?) level was low and I might not be able to metabolize the 6MP. Also told me to call if the pain got worse or I had any fever chills, changes I guess. I am still having pain, don't know if it's worse but it seems more wide spread. Is this in my head? Could I really be experiencing this after only 2 doses?

The abdominal pain is just above and to the right and left of my belly button now and all along the bottom of my abdomin, just above my pubic bone.

Also, I just ache all over, and when my husband tries to massage my shoulders or whatever it hurts, and he's barely touching me.

Any insight would be greatly appreciated:sign0085:

Sounds like there's been a change in the amount of pain you're in so you'll want to contact your GI asap. If there's no one in the office tomorrow as it is the weekend, you could try contacting your local pharmacist (I know mine closes at 6PM on Sundays) and see what they say about whether or not your should keep taking it until Monday.

Hope you start feeling better and find something that works for you soon! :)

Thanks for the feedback

I 'll call first thing in the am and see what they say.

My doc is really good about getting back to me, if I don't hear from them I'll call the pharm too, thanks for the fast response. I should work on doing what I would tell someone else in my shoes to do, but it sure is nice to have this resource.

No its fine. Other people have had a similar issue with 6MP screwing around fairly quickly when they first start it so I understand your concern. I forget the name of the user on here but 6MP gave them pancreatitis and they weren't on it for very long at all. Keep us posted on what the GI or pharmacist says.

wow pancretitus, it's gonna be a long haul, huh? I was so glad to finally be getting answers and options, that I wasn't prepared for what the options would entail. Still it's better than everyone thinking I'm a hypochondriac.

:p Indeed it is.

Yeah some people can have some pretty bad reactions and complications with some meds but there are MANY who don't. I took 6MP for over 15 years with no complications until recently when my GI screwed around with the dose too much. Now I'm on Humira instead. So far so good. :)

at first they were talking remicade, but when the blood work was still not back they decided to go to 6MP. I have a follow up on Tuesday for bloodwork and to talk about the treatment some more. Based on the conversation with my gi's patient coordinator, they may take me off of it and go to the remicade (sp).

In the mean time I am hoping my employer will continue to work with me while I get this all sorted out.

I hope they work with you too. Just be honest with them and do your best. They can't fire you for it. You'd win that fight for sure!

Just let them try and fire me, of course, maybe if they did I'd get a settlement the stress would be gone and I'd start pooping buterflies and rainbows!

It will be either remacade, or maybe humera, not sure. He also mentioned reducing the dose on the 6-mp, but that doesn't seem likely, since my levels TH6 enzyme level is low. I see the doc on Tuesday.
