Help - Humira Injection Leak?

Hi all,

This is my first post, I'm hoping you can help. I've just completed my 3rd Humira injection. (Started with loading dose of 4 pens, then two weeks later 2 pens, now another two weeks later, today, I have just 1 pen.)

After giving the previous 6 injections, I have never had any medicine leak out. Today, I had about a nickel sized amount leak out and roll off my leg during the injection. Is this normal? Or too much to lose? I know the needle went in, I have a huge bruise (same as last two times) and had some bleeding. Should I be concerned? Also how would I get another pen, even if I needed one?

Thanks for your reply. Yes I have called Humira, they just said I need to call and speak to my doctor about it. (Will do tomorrow once they're open).

I was just curious if anyone else out there has had this happen before, if it was something to be worried about, and/or who would be able to send you the replacement pen should you need it?

I know the pens are supposed to be fool proof but if it's giving you a huge bruise and now having that much leak out then it may be that you need to be doing something differently. Are you rotating sites and using your belly too? Are you also getting a big bruise when you use your belly?

Perhaps your GI's office could have you come in and show them what you're doing and see if they have any suggestions?

We always used the syringes here and pretty much stuck to his belly because he said his thighs hurt too much when we tried to do the shots there. We rarely had any fluid leak out and then only a drop maybe. Never got bruising but the spot was definitely sore for several hours afterwards according to my son.

A drop leakage is Ok, Helps if you are relaxed.I found if I play relaxing music and slow myself to relax before the shot I get more of the medicine in me.
