Hey Friends, so Ive been absent lately....dealing with way too much...as usual. So I was seen in the ER a few weeks ago for an infection in my women parts caused by and IUD. I was put on a lot of antibiotics and sent home...three weeks later, still a major infection going on. So my doc says I need IV antibiotics, and has given me an option....admitted into hospital for a week or a PICC line with dosing twice a day. What do you think?? Anyone have any experience with PICC line, please tell me what you would do....Im scared, frustrated and just want to get better....hoping that my CD doesnt cause problems again....thanks guys~

Hey Bev, sorry for the troubles you're having. Obviously, I know nothing about either but (and this may be the man in me talking), I'd take any option to stay out of the hospital!!

Hi Bev - Sorry to hear about the infection! My aunt had a recurring, nasty kidney infection recently and had to do antibiotics at home thru a PICC. She's 75 and had no problems doing that at home.

I had a PICC line once in the past. It was kind of a weird sensation having it put in, didn't really hurt, but just felt weird. But they knew I was going to be in the hosp for a long time and the PICC was really great to have.

Good luck. Hope you can knock out the infection and your Crohn's doesn't start acting up.

GI sending me in for admission to hospital, infection is out of control, and he doesnt want me to wait til tomorrow to get treatment going.....Ill keep you all posted. Thanks for your support!!

Hi Bev, I know you don't want to go to the hospital for an IV, but I think your doctor has made the right choice. NO one likes to be in there but you need to take care of you. Infections are not to be taken lightly. Keep us posted, if you have a laptop take it with you and talk to us!! :hang:

Take care! I wish everyone would stay away from those IUDs. I've heard nothing but horror stories about them. Both my mom and my sister had problems with theirs and my mom's almost killed her. Take it out, use another method (kind of directed at anyone who has one, hope you're getting your's removed Bev).

WOW!! Another 5 days in the hospital...really?? So my infection got so bad they ended up admitting me and putting me on lots of antibiotics....an MRI showed strictures, scare tissue and some inflamation in my small intestines. The good thing is, the vaginal infection ius clearing up. They upped my dose of Pred, gave me a remicade treatment and prayed things go ok for me. I will follow up with my new OB as he believes I suffer with endometritos also, only time will tell whats really going on inside this body of mine.

heya blm, im praying for you that they find out whats going on with your body and that its nothing to bad that they cant just give you something for and it helps right away..

Wow, Bev, when it rains, it pours, huh? That's a lot going on!

Good luck getting everything sorted out, and glad the girl-parts infection is cleared up!

Hiya Friends, thanks for all your support and kind words....Im out and living again...life is tough, and just having a hard time keeping my head up. Im feeling better day by day, but still a struggle to get up and going. Tomorrow is anew day, and I look forward to it....

I'm glad you are feeling better, Bev. I hope you have a speedy recovery and receive plenty of love and support from your family and friends.

Hello again my friends! Greetings with good news...finally a break! Things seem to be cleared up for the infection and my cd is mostly under control. Im seeing my ob in two weeks to discuss next steps to making sure things are ok after such bad infection. I get more energy everyday (with the exception of today) and the terrible mania thats prednisone induced...ICK! Im weaning off pred again...and trying to get off quickly. Im spending the days with my two most precious children in the warm park...taking one day at a time. I have been working toward getting accepted to a top teaching program in the US, and AMAZING have been Accepted!! It will take me a year to complete the program, as I already hold other college degrees. Im really excited, but also really scared. Im not sure Im ready for such a big commitment at this point, but have had the outlook "if its ment to be, it will" and it has!! So I just have to continue to go with it and know, and learn to deal with this crapy disease that throws itself at you in every way possible at times. Thanks again for all your caring ears and kind words!!

Hey Bev, glad to hear things have improved so much for you and congrats on your new venture. I'm sorry I can't recall his name, but how is your son?

Happy things are going so much better for you, Bev! And congrats on being accepted into the teaching program! That is very exciting. What will be your focus? I studied Elementary Education and English and have taught both.

Thank you again for all your support. Things are better and better, pain has come back in my side and back...that nagging pinching, and some loose stools. Im continuing to have gynocological problems, but have a minor surgery schedules to try and keep things cleared in that area. Ive been really busy getting ready for schoool to start, Im planning on teaching Elementary Eduction. Trying to get everything in line for my son who will start pre k in the fall and my daughter needs childcare too.
My son Ethan is doing pretty good. He and I have learned the triggers that cause problems. As long as we stay away from those triggers he seems good. Hes not on any of the meds, and were just trying to control it by diet....seems to be working. But Im always so freaked out when I see change or hes not feeling good.
Thanks again~

Thanks Bev!! I think all of us in the crohnie family are a little more leery of our kids, chronie or not!! Glad things are improving for you and Ethan!!

A line makes it much easier for everyone. You wont be a pin cushion, the risk for infection is lower with so many less sticks. It would be great if we were all born with a port!!! They are permanent, but easier for bathing, ext. Good luck, hope you are well soon!!

A picc is temporary ...sorry if I was confusing

Hey , glad you feelin better , i was in hospital about 4 weeks ago (for 2 weeks) and was on iv Antibiotics and iv steroids , so had a picc line put in apparently my veins are tiny and ain't very straight so they have difficulty getting a candular in me so this was an easier option as was needing medication i.v every 4 hours , Was well scared about having it done , but it was really nothing to worry about , not painful or uncomfortable at all and the staff at the hospital were so nice. Mine is out now and hoping im going to stay out of hospital. But if need be i would have a picc line again :)
