I am needing help with my diet, I have been on a few but never managed to stick with them, as the pain is getting worse as they are cutting my pain killers i think its time to start trying a diet again and see if that helps with the pain. I just don't know where to start with this tho, I know I need to cut out dairy and junk food, I have stopped snacking which is good. Do you guys have any tips or recipes i could try also what about supplements. I would really appreciate the info and tips. thanks :)

Hiya Ben

Start by keeping a food journal, document everything. It's a process of elimination, trial and error. If a certain food triggers you, eliminate it, then reintroduce it back in at a later date.
You can find info on the forum on the Low Residue Diet and the Specific Carbohydrate Diet.
I usually stick to low res when I have pain and diarrhea, and it works. it's basically white food, mashed potatoes, rice, pasta and bread, including muffins and bagels. Also chicken and turkey. Eggs and bananas are good too. I have success with toast and Cheerios or Rice Krispies! Eat nothing coloured, no red meat, no seeds or nuts, and no veg like cabbage and broccoli, carrots are ok tho. and drink plenty of water

Snacking is fine, in fact most find smaller meals and large snacks (or eating 5 or 6 small meals) helps with their symptims. Just make sure they're good snacks! I keep Nutrigrain bars and probiotic yoghurts and bananas handy at work, so the moment I feel a hunger pain I have something to help keep me out of the biscuit barrel!

Check my blog...this diet and supplement really seems to be working for me and hopefully I can add some foods back. Message me if you have any questions.

I second looking into the specific carbohydrate diet. The tough part about it is having a lot of variety unless you have time to prepare things. Most of the meat and vegetables are easy enough to cook, but baking things becomes an experiment at first. Chicken soup is pretty easy to make. I found myself eating a lot of bacon (no sugar, low sodium), eggs, chicken, steak, ground beef, and pork for a lot of calories to try and gain weight. I recommend getting a yogurt maker. Much easier to make yogurt with, and it's great for you. Mix in some honey to sweeten it, add some chopped up fruit for a good dessert.

I had to go on a strict gluten free, sugar free, lactose diet for 4 months (still on it), then I'll be able to introduce some stuff back to see what I can handle and what I can't...was very hard to do, but the consequences are far worse!! It's still all trial and error, but I am managing better since the diet change and I am back to eating foods I didn't think UI'd be able to have for a while....good luck!
