Hi everyone

One of Ben's issues is low ferritin. He has had infusions for this but they don't last. We have tried Sytron as a supplement but it upset his stomach. We currently have Spatone water which he is not too keen on. We are in the UK but I was wondering if anyone had had success with any iron supplement anywhere out there that we could try!

Many thanks in advance

Hi, do you have Holland & Barrett where you are? I believe they have a couple different iron supplements which are a bit more gentle than iron tablets. My mom had some success with one, I will see if she can remember.

We have an iron problem in my family. I use black-strap molasses which is very high in iron but I don't know if he would swallow it. You can put it in food like oat meal.

Kimmidwife had a name of a iron supplement that is gentle on the stomach. If she gets time I'm sure she'll stop by.

I was going to suggest the blackstrap molasses too... You can also just put some in a cup of boiling water and drink it like coffee/tea - I thought this sounded AWFUL but tried it and it's not too bad. :)

I have no advice-- just want to say that this is a very difficult problem for many people with IBD. My son has tried a bunch - some he couldn't tolerate because of side effects; others were ok on his gi track but hardly moved his ferritin at all. Hope you find something that works!
