haha I had issues too... I actually wrote a forum yesterday and found how too before someone told me

Go on the tabs on top, quick links, edit profil, edit avatar, set your own avatar

If your photo file is too large (over 19.5 KB), you should be able to size it down in Microsoft Paint (or if you have a Mac, in Preview).
