Okay people. If you have them, how do you deal with them. Mine are so painful I could cry all the time. Seems like I have tried everything and everytime I tell my GI how much they bother me she kind of blows it off. I feel absolutely helpless and frustrated. I don't know what to do or how to cope with the pain. It's my 22nd birthday this Thursday and I wish wish wish I could spend just one night out and have dinner like a normal 22 year old. I know that's not going to happen but I can still wish right? Sorry about the vent....

Kait,
Tell your GI you want to see a proctologist. If she cannot give you a name, then contact your PCP. And if the GI still continues to blow you off, find someone else. There is no reason for you to suffer! I am lucky (I guess) mine are "outies" that I have named Lucy & Ethel and as long as the dont bother me, they can hang around. One of my friends just had surgery on her hemmies. She tells me it is the best thing she has ever done.
Good luck,
Michele

Thanks for the advice. All four of mine are external but they bother me so much. I feel a stabbing pain constantly. I'll bring up the proctologist with my GI. I just feel like my pain is extreme.

I agree with MADiMarc. Usually when mine act up I usually just go sit in a warm bath and that helps alittle. Have you ever tried apple cider vinegar? Keep reading good things about it for hemorrhoids, but haven't had the chance to try it out yet..

I haven't tried that. I'll look into it. Seriously nothing helps. Not baths, creams, pain meds, etc. I wonder if there is maybe something else going on...

Kait,
I am so sorry to hear that you are in so much pain! I can relate very well with you! I too have them and dealt with them for a very long time! However mine would bleed, and weren't usually painful! Well back in december I had a colonoscopy and I was told that I had ulcerated fissures, and prolapsed hemms. I was in excrutiating pain and couldn't take it anymore, I saw a colo rectal surgeon and had the hemma removed, but also had a lateral spincterotomy! In the beginning after surgery I thought it was the best thing! Well now I am in horrible pain again! And you would never know I had the hems removed, I also thinl my fissures are still not healed! I guess I am telling you all that because I think your docs should look into it further! Like I said I went years with the hems! I was also told that the hems wouldn't come back, so now here I am wondering why I am in so much pain again! I wish you luck hun! Oh and the only thing that gave me some temporary relieve was lidocaine ointment, that pretty much numbed me breifly! Once again good luck and Happy birthday! I really hope you make it out to dinner!

Sometimes they don't listen because they have never felt the pain. Generally, your primary care is the place to start as suggested below. Here in the states unfortunately, sometimes the reason no one seems to be listening is because the Dr's get a lot of grief from the insurance companies, they have to justify the procedure on paper i.e. a long history of bleeding and swelling complaints. Threatening to camp out in the waiting room until they give you an appointment with a surgeon or a proctologist (all most forgot about those guys) might work. Standing your ground is not a crime; they need to feel your pain then they will do something for you. Good luck! I have innees and thought mine would need surgery and I also got the brush off. Before I got to camp out in the waiting room, I had to have my entire large bowel removed. Sense then, they have not bothered me but once a year. My annual prostrate exam,...ouch. A good sense of humor helps to get thru the tough times. Bob E from Maine

I have bad ones too, but have been told by several Drs that it is not safe for a person with Crohns to have surgery on them, and that they will just come back.

I'm sorry you are in so much pain. Maybe you have a fistula or something else going on. You need to get in to see your Dr and ask about that. Fistulas can be very painful! Good luck sweetheart. I'm sorry you are dealing with this so near your birthday. :(

Hey Keepsmiling.

I dont get haemorrhoids - they sound mighty painful. I just wanted to say that I hope you can find some relief. Especially for your birthday :D
Sorry I dont have much to add.

Hiya Kait

I feel your pain hun, they're not fun and they're not funny!
The only thing that works for me is 1% hydrocortisone cream, only on prescription from the doc. Also, Germoloids are good, it numbs the pain.
Keep persisting with the GI, unless they've got pain, they've NO IDEA!
good luck

I had a really nasty hemmie that finally went away recently (naming them seems to be a common trend here, mine was Herbert and I hope to never see him again!). Mostly it just took time and keeping it clean and dry and not wiping it too hard. I got some of those moist flushable wipes that I'd wipe it with and then dab it dry with regular toilet paper. I'd also put creams on it like Calmoseptine which worked pretty well for the burning & pain.

I seemed to have a little success too with the vitamin E trick. I didn't invent this, found it online. What you do, in a nutshell, is you get a bottle of vitamin E gelcaps, but instead of swallowing them, you take one and poke a hole in one end with a pin, and squish out the goo directly onto the hemmie. Do that a couple times a day and it might help. It gets a little messy, and I'd recommend you wear a pantiliner when you do this (assuming you're a female) as it can soak right through your pants, but it did seem to bring me some relief and I think it shrunk my hemmie slightly.

Good luck! I hope you get some relief soon! Hemmies are so annoying!

I use a cream called proctosedyl. It is a corticosteroid/antibiotic cream. It does help, but needs to be applied after every bowel movement.

I see a lot of people on this forum have to deal with hemorrhoids. Has anyone else ever went the Infrared Coagulation route? I did it a few years ago and it completely got rid of them with virtually no pain and no down time. It's been almost 3 years ago and so far, I haven't experienced anything negative or any draw backs from the process. My doctor wanted me to have the surgery or just live with them. I did my own research and found out about the infrared coagulation process on my own. I was able to find someone who did it not very far from me. I am still dealing with other anal and Crohn's issues but not hemorrhoids now.

It frustrates me. I'm growing increasingly more and more hostile with doctors. Many seem to only offer treatment and procedures that they personally perform. I wish doctors would do what is best for the patient and not their own practice.

Thanks for the suggestions guys. My doctor is completely against removing them. She says they usually come back in a year anyways. I'll gladly try all of these suggestions!

I hate hemmies! I have had one since the start of this about 6 years ago and it has never gone away (is that normal? o_O) I hate when it hurts, even though that is very rare... I try and not sit directly on my bum. ;)

That is so funny that people name them! I don't think I could ever do that...well not yet anyway. ;)

I hope you find some relief soon OP!
