Alrighty, Id like to start off by saying that Im glad I found this website. :) I looked all over for chat rooms, blogging, and bulletin boards on the net, and this one just seemed like the perfect place to talk and learn more about Crohns.
So Ill start off by saying that Im an average seventeen year old girl. I JUST got diagnosed with Crohns about..6 days ago? Last week I came down with the horrid cramps in my lower right side. Id never had them before, so it kinda weirded me out. I knew something was wrong, since they were constant and didnt seem to want to go away. I told my mom I wanted to go to the doctor. After all the blood tests, cat scans and what-not, that night they told me it was possible appendix but they werent exactly positive. Either way, Id have surgery.
I stayed the night in the hospital and the next morning I went into surgery. After all that, the doctor came in and told me they removed my appendix, although that was not the huge problem. My cecum was enlarged and swollen 3 times the normal where it connects to the intestine. And then he told me I had Crohns disease.
I was released 5 days later, which was 2 days ago. Im doing fine now, and Im on my special diet which so far is going really well. Before this, Id never heard of Crohns, and Im still learning new things about it. It makes me feel better that I can talk to all of you on here, and you probably know exactly what Im going through. Its hard to tell my friends haha, they just dont understand I guess. Im always on the computer, so Ill for sure be a regular around here. Thanks guys for listening to my story !! :)

Hi and welcome! Sounds like you had a quick diagnosis.
Are you on any medications right now?
What is your special diet that you are on?
It seems like a few other people on here went in for surgery to have their appendix out, and then was diagnosed with Crohn's while in surgery. They must have similar symptoms. Weird.

Welcome!

Sounds like you're taking your diagnosis about as well as can be expected. I had almost an identical experience to yours when I was 27. How is your post-surgery pain?

Suddenly having to deal with all the Crohn's news/information is an awful lot to digest (pardon the pun) at any age. Hope we can help you.

yay! another 17-year-old girl!

i hope you recover quickly from your surgery. this forum is very helpful for answering any questions you may have!

Thanks guys !
Im dealing really well post surgery. I have barely any pain. I get to return to school tomorrow which Im verrrry excited about, since I missed my first 3 days of senior year ! ughh. lol I am on medication, just antibiotic stuff for a few months I guess. And my special diet, isnt really so special haha. Of course being 17 I LOVED junk food, and still do. Im just turning that kinda stuff down for a more healthier diet and eating smaller portions. Its going to be hard when I return to my job, working at a Carvel Ice Cream store ! haha

Ya, definitely a semi-common theme. People go to get their appendix out and end up with a Crohns diagnosis instead. I am glad that your diagnosis was quick and to the point. I hope that your "luck" with this disease continues like it has been, though no one is ever lucky who gets this disease.
