My name is Nick and I am a U C sufferer!
I was diagnosed roughly 20 years ago. Ive been on high doses of asacol, prednisone (effin hate that drug!) , imurran, and soon to start remicade.
Prednisone has been the worse for me. Although it was a "quick fix" the side effects were horrible. The visual sided effects are one thing, but the physical were worse. Ive been off p for over 2 months now and all my joints are screwed. I used to play drums , now I struggle to hold on to the sticks my fingers hurt so bad.
SO! Lets see if remicade helps at all lol

Awesome board, by the way . A lot of great info

Hi Nick. I think I am the only person that loved pred. Horrible drug that ate my bones but made me feel great! I did remi for several years. Worked well for me. I had no side effects. Wishing you the same.

Listen, I had been having horrible pains in my joints. And I was so arthritic I could hardly move sometimes. One of the guys here put up a yoga link. It has really helped me ALOT. Check it out.

Good luck with remi.

Thank you MADiMARC I'll look for that link. I'm willing to try just about anything right now...yes, its that bad.

Hello Nick and :welcome: I really hope the Remi can get things sorted for you. Out of interest when you were on the Pred were you given any kind of calcium stuff to help protect your bones?

I too have been on prednisone and asacol for years with no real issues. Until the last few months. Doc claims that the remicade will take care of all the swelling and joint pain. Keeping my fingers crossed.

Very curious, the first thing my GI did when he found out I was on steroids again was sort a prescription for calcichew, this is to help avoid future complications like osteoporosis. Have you had any bone density scans at all since your diagnosis and pred use?

Nope! Hasnt even been suggested . But now that you mention that, I will ask about it next time I see the doctor. All he has ever asked me to do was blood work and that is for the imuran.

Nick -definetly ask, as you have had lots of pred use I think they really should check your bones out. I have had two scans in the last 9 years and I am glad to say the were both normal - this helps for good piece of mind in this area.
