My name is Kristina. I am a 27 year old student, mother, and military wife. I was diagnosed with Crohn's about 1/2 a year ago. I just started taking humira a few weeks ago. Crohn's sucks, I never thought I'd be so sick at this age. I still have hope that I will go into remission, but so far I haven't been so lucky. I can't wait to hear other peoples stories and advice!!

Hello Kristina and welcome to the forum :)

I am sorry to hear that you are still not feeling fully well, what symptoms are you still getting? What meds have you been on previously? Has any type of dietary changes been mentioned and if so did you find any benifit? We do have a sub forum dedicated to Humira if you want to have a chat with the the folks here as well: http://www.crohnsforum.com/forumdisplay.php?f=59.

I have been on entocort, pentasa, and prednisone for about a year and a half. I meant to say I was diagnosed 1 1/2 years ago. I tend to go back and forth from D to C. I have blood and lots of pain. No serious surgeries yet, thank goodness. I have a lot of other affected body parts. I've developed lots of kidney stones, herniated discs, and general arthritis pain. Also I've had a few esophogeal ulcers. Mostly I just wish I had some energy to do more with my son. :(

Welcome! I was just diagnosed in July with CD. I agree, it does suck! I am still on prednisone so my D is gone for now. Tapering off it now tho somwe'll see at the end of October if I am luck enough to go into remission. Although over the last week my gut pains are coming back; not nearly as strong tho.
Hopefully you can get into remission soon. Sending positive vibes ~~~~~~~~

When was the last time a test was done to check things inside? Are the docs monitoring your blood at all so to see if the Humira is working? I would also ask them to do a full vitamin check - get them to at least do B12, D and Folate.

I haven't had the blood work done for my Humira yet. I just took my second dose this past Thursday. I'm going to go have it drawn this week. I have had a vitamin panel done and I take iron, b-12, D, and folic acid daily. My last colonoscopy was about 7 months ago. Things didn't look good :( My doc suggested Humira for 6 months and a followup to see if I'll need a resection after that. I'm hoping I won't need it. I think maybe the Humira is just battling it out right now and it is making me tired and sick. LOL

Welcome to the site Kristina and sorry that you had to join us in this awful disease. The lack of energy is one of the most frustrating things I find - just being unable to lead a normal life. Hopefully one of the medicines works well for you so that you can do more with your little boy. Its early days with the humira since I think you said you just had your second dose so with luck that may soon be working and you'll be bouncing with energy and pain free. In the meantime, I'm sending positive vibes too. (all the way from australia :) )

Welcome to the forum. I too am a mother and am 26. I have two young sons and i was hospitalized when my youngest was just a few months old. He is about to turn two and im still trying to find remission. I start humira this week and am hoping for remission. I have been sick off and on since i was 19 but didn't get a proper diagnosis until my hospitalization. Crohn's has been a battle for me and for a lot of people. But having someone to talk to has helped me. We are all here for you and I hope you feel better soon.
:welcome:

Thank you everyone. I am so excited to have a community of people who know what I'm going through. I find it difficult to talk to my husband about it because I don't want to seem like I'm being a baby or something. Right now I feel like I'm at the end of my rope. I don't know if I can spend my entire life sick like this!! Something has to give!!

I believe almost everyone with crohns at some point says the same thing your thinking "how am i going to live my entire life like this". But the truth is life has its ups and downs. Being broke, marital problems, etc. Crohns unfortunately is just one of those "things" and when you start to feel better you can go back to enjoying the little things without focusing on your illness. Its when "we" are at our worst that we tend to focus on how "depressing" crohns is. It will get better when you feel better. Being able to confide in your spouse or a counselor will help a lot. And finding things to do , that you can do while your sick help too. Read a new book, play games, watch a new show, etc.

Good advice from Lola, the main thing to do is accept that you have this illness but don't allow it to rule your life. Life won't be exactly as you may have planned but then it never is. I spent many years fighting rather than accepting and all it gave me was depression. Now I realise that there are things I cant do and things that don't have to be done. It doesn't matter for instance if the house doesn't look perfect, or dinner is an "easy" meal, looking after myself is more important. Do what you can do and don't beat yourself up about the rest. I think we are often our own worst critics. My husband used to always tell me the cleaning police wouldn't be visiting today when I felt bad about housework, although I must admit his mother often felt like them.:rosette1:
