Does anyone else have these symptoms , i am currently taking azathioprine and mesalazine and mesalasine enema which doesnt seem to b working :( my main problem is just the whole emotional side to the disease being single how on earth would i explain such a embarrasing disease to anyone :( . Advice ?

Can't help you since I don't have UC, just wanted to say hi, hopefully you get a reply soon.

Maybe you would like to post your thread in the diet section too just in case you get a better response there.

Hia,
I have Crohns but know how you feel about the emotional aspect of having these diseases.
My advice would be to remove any embarrassment -- if you are open and honest about the problem most people will take your lead and react in a similar way. I met my boyfriend after having Crohns for two years and told him pretty much right from the start, he's not fussed in the slightest and is now the most supportive rock when I'm unwell. Obviously, not everyone wants to know or say all the nasty details when your getting to know someone; but if they know you've got UC chances are they'll google it and find out what it's about anyway.
I began by explaining that its like when you get mouth ulcers (as many can relate to this) but along my intestine. So it gets very painful sand swollen and can make me really unwell. And then I gave a few symptoms.
The more relaxed and open you are about it, the more everyone else will be :) if its a good person, they won't even care.
Hope this kind of eases that worry,
Good luck!

Hi GEC i guess ur right , honesty is best and nt taking things so serious And i guess if i can be open about my illness and al that come with it then that would hopefully take the embarrasment away straight away, just hope i can find someone that is understanding ! Ur comment has helped say positive thanks :)

I know is definitely easier said than done but trying to remain as optimistic and positive as possible is really important. I suffer from anxiety and can get really low so I'm not dismissing the way you feel at all but I think having crohns or UC is stressful enough without adding other stresses to the pile. :) I don't doubt you will find a supportive partner to be there with you through it all.
I'm glad anything I said made a bit of difference, it's tough and this forum is so great for finding support. Don't hesitate to vent or rant away if you need to.

Hi Kf

just reading your post and thought id like to add a little bit.

i was in the same boat as you, really embaressed by it all, and i had only started seeing someone when i was diagnosed. believe it or not but i managed to hide it from her for nearly a year. i was at the point i was lying to her and told her i had urine infections and thats why i kept going to the toilet. i was stressed out and thinking she might not like someone who has a bowel disease etc. but she found out through a family member and she was absolutely brilliant with it. it made absolutely no difference to our relationship, infact made it better because i was less stressed and didnt need to live a lie anymore, so it defo took a weight off my shoulders. we even joked about the fact i might need to wear a nappy when going out (i never did btw). but it was no issue :)

im not with her now, she left me for a guy with a normal bowel hahaha (jk)

Thanks for replies it makes me feel better knowin there are others like me and have actually got through the anxieties i am goin through. I have found it easier to open up to people about my illness the past year and i suppose its just learning to deal with the emotional side of the illness aswel as the physical :/
