Hi everybody,
I have been diagnosed with ulcerative colitis for over 16years, and it wasn't under control. I tool azathiaroprine, prednisolone, and azacol for a few years to no avail. I then decided to try and control it myself for over 10 years, by looking into other alternative complementary therapies. Tried herbal medicine, ayurvedic medicine, electronic gem therapy, and all have helped extremely.

I had my second colonoscopy completed in May in India, and my results concluded that i am in remission. This took 4 months of avoiding wholemeal bread, junk food, chips, chocolate, and 2 cups of tea.

I then had to have white bread, rice, daal, vegetables, bananas, and ayurvedic medicines (these were extremely helpful in clearing up the ulcerative colitis).

The colitis has come back with anxiety, and is getting better day by day, and i am extremely happy to hear the good news.

If anybody's colitis is out of control, i would recommend you not to take any medications from the doctors, and use alternative medicine instead. It helped in reducing flare-ups, and being able to self-diagnose when it appears again, e.g. stress.

Kristen's Mom-

Did the swelling appear, because of the side effects of the injections? Does she feel very hot inside her body, around summer time? No need to worry. Please explain this to you're family G.P, that you are concerned.

I hope this helps.

Thanks

Welcome Soph,

Glad to hear you have found remedies that work for you. :) Hope you stay in remission! Are you able to eat anything right now, or do you still avoid wholemeal bread etc.?

Hi Soph and welcome:). Please keep posting your successes. We can all learn and get new ideas from what works for someone. It may not work for everyone but it never hurts to get a new perspective. Thanks and stick around!!

Hi soph and :welcome:

I'm glad you found us. It's good to hear that you are doing so well with your UC and I hope it stays that for you. I have absolutely no issue with alternative medicine and if it does the trick then more power to it but I don't agree with the statement that recommends that you do not take any medications from the doctor when the colitis is out of control. This is of course an individual decision that, to me, would be made after careful consideration when presented with all the facts.

I do hope you stick around and please keep us posted on how you are going.

All the best, :)
Dusty

Welcome sohp! Glad diets are helping you. I too did that in the past but didnt help me. Having said that , there are babies who have Crohns and havent had the traditional western diet. Therefore I don't believe diet is the answer for everyone, and it depends on the severity of their disease. I too wished it worked for me, no one likes being on meds. Glad you found your remission, it is what we all strive for! Congrats.

Hi Soph
and welcome

really glad that alternatives are working for you, and that you're heading for remission, long may it continue!
Not a good idea to promote this to other sufferers, I'm afraid, not a good idea to suggest not taking medications neither!
Please remember we are all unique!
Just my opinion!

Just a friendly reminder to forum members. Whilst some have found ways of coping with their diseases, we do not advocate or nor are doctor's/Psychiatrist as such. Never make changes in your diseases without consulting your doctor first. What may help for one may not help for another. As mentioned in alot of post we are all different and react to meds and naturals differently. We are here to support and give experiences of the disease nothing more. Always remember we are here to help everyone, ultimately the choice is certainly your own. ;)

hi Soph and welcome to the forum :)

i'm so happy to hear you've found a way to alleviate your symptoms.

however i feel i must concur with some of what has already been said here - it is not good practice for any of us to advise people not to take medicines from regular doctors/physicians. medical staff only have their patients best interests at heart, and they are the experts, not us.

many of us would not be here, or not have the ability to cope with their symptoms, if not for medicinal/surgical intervention.

as much as i respect and uphold the alternative medicine aspect, in fact i have tried homeopathy myself in the past, i would urge anyone to take the advice and medication which is recommended by their doctor. by all means look into alternatives if you so wish, but don't ignore traditional methods.

Hi everybody,

I do agree, medication for extreme cases, depending on everybody's individual case does work. I do not want to give away the wrong advice, or misleading information to anybody. so apologies in that regard. I do hope you understand.

Hi Sophia,

Thanks for you're comment. :)

I do sometimes eat wholemeal bread, on rare occasion, usually it is white bread now and rice.

Take Care
Have a nice day. :)
