Hi, i'm Jem, I was diagnosed with crohns when I was 17 (on my mum's birthday no less!) i'd had symptoms dating as far back as age 12 but they weren't serious, just tummy aches and halitosis so we never though anything of it. I started having more severe pain the summer prior to my diagnosis and again in the November, I was sent for an ultrasound which found nothing. They thought I had a grumbling appendix. Over Christmas the pain gradually got worse and my GP was convinced it was appendicitus but told me I wasn't to go to hospital until I started to be sick.

After another two weeks I collapsed and went into surgery to have my appendix removed, until they found it wasn't appendicitus after all! I believe i have Ileocolic (sp?) Crohns, they removed my ileum and part of my colon.

Since then i've been mostly free, 4 tabs pentasa twice daily and yearly check-ups, until this year when the pain started coming back, so I have my first colonoscopy tomorrow (which i've just finished the godawful klean-prep for) D:

GREAT NAME!!!! :) :) :)

Welcome to the forums, Silver!! Good luck with your colonoscopy tomorrow, and let us know how it turns out!

And yup, you got the term and spelling bang on....ileocolic....basically where the small intestine meets the large... lol.

Take care!!

Yours is awesome too Silvermoon - mine is my favourite colour - unimaginative I know....

Thank you! I was a bit sceptical about joining a forum like this one for years...(call it my teenage angst phase???) it's only been recently that i've really started to want to research into it more and meet others with the disease.

It's so nice to come here and find such warm, friendly people I can't wait to get to know you all :D

Hi Silver, welcome!! Please come back and update us on your scope tomorrow. Good luck!!

i just replied to you in the hug thread, Silver, but here's my official hi & welcome to the forum :)

i also had Crohn's symptoms from pre-teen years, right thru my teens, and was only diagnosed around my early 20's. but in those days, i had no internet let alone a forum full of people who understood what it was like - i felt so alone with it all :(

i'm delighted you found us, and decided to join our family. :) all the very best for the scope tomorrow. let us know how you get on.

Hi Jem and :welcome:

Good to have you here. I hope everything goes well with your scope tomorrow. Please keep us posted with the outcome. I look forward to seeing you around!

:goodluck:

All the best,
Dusty

Well all done and i'm still feeling a little woozy from the sedative (and my panic over the prep was unwarrented as they said it was perfect)

It was more painful than I thought...the nurse said that my bowel had got twisted? (at least I think that's what she said) and that was why.

They found ulcers and I get the biopsy results in two weeks to see what alteration needs to be done to my meds...

Not bad though, I can eat again, yay! :D

i love that feeling of freedom once the starving and procedure is over... last time i bought myself a very naughty bacon butty on the way home :D

well done, Jem - glad you got through it ok... i hope the results bring easy relief for you in finding the appropriate meds you need.

I was spoilt, my fiance made me a tuna melt baguette (though I couldn't eat it all)

And tea with milk! Never thought that would taste so nice! XD

Thanks Dingbat i'm so relieved there was nothing worse wrong :)

Hey,
Welcome, glad went all well with your scope, they are never nice but have to be done. Hopefully they will be able to tweek your meds and your be right as rain in no time. Keep us updated.
Yes where you from? I am a Brit also

I'm living in Cheltenham but a northern lass by birth :)

I've been very lucky, it's my first flare since initial diagnosis so i'm counting my blessings at the moment.

good luck with the colonoscopy! i hated that stupid prep crap. it was awfulllll. i hope you find relief soon from your flare up. every day one at a time :)

Glad to hear the scope went well! :)

Yes, twisting and looping and all kinds of things seem to happen to our lovely bowels... ... I wonder if "healthy people" have the same issues...of course...no one is going to "volunteer" for a scope unless they need one...so probalby not a good chance of finding that out... LOL!!

Anywhos...hopefully more good news to come. Take care and hope to hear from you soon!! :) :)
