Hello Everyone ,
Just thought i'd introduce myself ... Im Laura and I am 19 .
I was diagnosed with crohns 3 years ago in the middle of my g.c.s.e exams at school ...what a great time that was ! .. I still managed to pass them all somehow with a great lack of revision due to tiredness , you all know how it is!
Anyway , I am determined not to let this disease stop me living my life & so far so good with this plan , I have climbed a mount Kenya , in Africa ( against my GI's advise obviously :thumleft: ) and if anything crohns helped me get up there , I know Im strong enough to do anything i want & lets just say , the pain barrier of climbing a mountain , is nothing in comparison to that of having crohns !!!

I love ballroom and latin dance & if anything has helped me get through this disease , dancing is the thing ! ....infact , up until last year , no one at dancing of knew about my crohns ( acting skills may have been involved ) ...i had to tell them last year when going on a trip away to Blackpool , as the food situation at the hotel was going to be some what of an issue ! They couldnt believe that I had managed to 'hide' it from them all for so long , since i spent quite alot of time there each week , however I hadnt had the need to tell them & it was my place to escape the whole thing

They have all been so supportive & my teacher has even taken to 'mothering' me when we are away ( annoying at points , but its lovely to know she cares that much to try and make sure i get something to eat ! )

What has helped everyone else through the rough times ?

Im looking forward to getting to know all of the lovely people on this forum :)
Please feel free to say hi & share your thoughts with me !!!

Hi Laura and welcome! What a great attitude! You are absolutely right - we can't let our disease stop us from living! Though, it sometimes can be tough to think that way when you are really feeling crumby. However, when I am not feeling well, I just keep in mind that it will pass and things will get better.

That is awesome that you have continued to dance without much trouble. I think exercise does help, if you are well enough to do so. I have started to work out again each morning (took a few months off since being diagnosed) and I find it helps reduce aches and pains and keeps me a little more regular if you know what I mean.

Thanks for sharing your story with us and welcome to the forum!

Hi Laura and welcome!

Thanks for sharing your inspirational stories! It's great that you have been able to continue dancing - hope you continue to feel well for a long time!

What meds are you on currently?

Take care and keep spreading that positive attitude!

Hi Amy ...Thankyou !
I was on azathaprine & pentasa up until christmas , but then i made the informed decision to stop all medication for 6 months until my appointment in a couple of weeks time, i was getting worse side effects from meds than crohns.
Luckily I only have only had small flares since :)
Thanks s much for your reply , i appreciate it
Hope your well

Hi Laura , welcome aboard

I am loving gthe aggression with which you are fighting this disease head on.

You will be/are a welcome addition to the group here !!

Hi Jill & thanks:)
Yes i definately found that exercise helped me , but you are right , its feeling well enough to do it - i pretty much made myself go to dancing every week even through diagnosis as it made me feel so much better, emotionally more than physically !! its great though as the studio has eveything i may need so if im not feeling well , i can rest or use the facilities ;)
Its great that you have been able to start working out again !
Laura x
