hip replacement

I had a hip replacement 13 yrs ago caused by steroids prescribed for skin disease. No big deal; have done well. May never need another but tend to get some stiffness if moving a lot then stopping. Aleve always worked but now I have been diagnosed with crohns last year. Started meds a month ago; first lialda but after 9 days literally couldn't get my leg to stay straight to walk. After stopping meds for 3 days could run a marathon. One day on Asocol as replacement same thing. Now on azathirprine and feeling some stiffness after 5 days so I have stopped using. Will start again in 2 days. Has anyone else had any such side effects? I know the drugs have worked because this flareup has much lessened and almost gone. But if I can't walk to the bathroom what good are the meds? Any advice will be great. Thanks.

That's really odd! What did your doctor say?

Just thinking with my fingers... each drug is an anti-inflammatory. I wonder if you have significant inflammation around your hip replacement that your body is using as a means to compensate. When the inflammation is reduced, the structural weakness in your leg presents because the inflammation is reduced and you experience the symptoms you describe. Sorta like how when you sprain an ankle it gets really inflamed and part of that response is to create sort of an internal cast to support the wound.

I realize the replacement was long ago, but as a yoga teacher, I see students with structural weaknesses around old wounds that the body compensates for all the time.

Sounds far fetched, I know. I just like to theorize :)
