My name is Robert Charlock I am the outreach coordinator/advocate for a 501-c3 ministry working exclusively with the homeless population in Indianapolis. I have a young man 20 years of age who has Crohn's and is living in a tent in a homeless community. Obviously this is not the environment for someone with this disease.
He comes from an addicted family, both drugs and alcohol, they are also very poor, he is not currently in an active addiction, but given his circumstances it is a good bet he will be . His older brother has been homeless for several years. When his younger brother was no longer able to live in the family home he brought him to his camp. There are a boat load of family complications that I will not go into. Programs to get the homeless into recovery are few and many cannot accommodate him because of his Crohn's.
I am hoping that someone in your community can point me to services for this young man. Each year I am forced to work with the corners office several times while dealing with the death of one of the folks I work with, I do not want to lose this very young man to his diseases and the street life. If you can point me to any viable services I would be
Sincerely Robert Charlock

Hi. All I can suggest is trying the Crohn's and Colitis Foundation of America. I'm sure someone more familiar than me will be along soon.

Has he been able to get on the federal medical exchange? Is he able to receive unemployment? Has he been able to call 211? Its hard out there if it were not for my parents Id be homeless too. Check with salvation army. Sometimes they have funding, if not their caseworkers may now an option in your area.

Hi rcharlock and welcome to the forum. Have him go to your local Social Services office and apply for Medicaid and possibly even Cash Aid. He may be able to get food stamps as well. If nothing else they can definitely help point him in the right direction. :) http://www.in.gov/fssa/
