Is it me, or does anyone else with Crohn's suffer with horrible heartburn that sometimes leads to nausea and vomiting? If so, what helps relieve your symptoms? I take Zofran when it's really bad. Thanks!

I never suffered from it before I was diagnosed and then heartburn was probably my 1st symptom which eventually lead to the diagnosis of crohns. I had an endoscopy which showed inflammation of the duodenum and a hiatus hernia and have since been on labzaprosole or nexium. It doesn't bother me that often though so I just take them as and when.

I had a lot of reflux when I was taking high doses of Prednisone, and my doctor prescribed Prilosec, which seemed to help. Zofran always helps me with nausea, too.

Did you ask your doctor? Sometimes they can pinpoint the causes of the heartburn and possibly adjust your meds or see if there's another underlying issue causing the problem.

This is the only reason that I ever went to a GI. Thought i am just nausus no vomiting. I just started Reglan (metoclopramide). I also take omeprazole which is similar to nexium.
I wish i had an idea. I've been trying to figure it out for 2 years.

My heartburn is terrible. I must take Nexium every day or prilosec (double dose) to survive the discomfort.

Grumble, grumble.

I get heart burn sometimes if I eat the foods that are commonly associated with it or if I lay down after eating. I will take two prilosec pills at a time and that'll help. I know in the hospital they usually prescribe me protonix which is a little stronger than prilosec if I'm not mistaken. I've also used tums if I can't wait for the protonix or prilosec to kick in because it's fast acting.

I had similar symptoms when H-Pylori crept into my Stomach.

I think it was because I was also experiencing my very first Crohn's symptoms and I was eating tums and Rolaids before my diagnosis. The lowering of the Stomach acid allowed the bacteria to move up into my Stomach.

I had at least two H-Pylori tests, one was from a biopsy. All came back negative. I was put on acid blockers and they really did not help, and one of them made it worse.

Finally I treated for H-Pylori using an alternative treatment method and it resolved all Stomach symptoms. The treatment I used requires specialized equipment so it is not practical for most people, but there are other methods you can us on your own.

I have not used any of these other methods, but you should be able to tell if they help fairly easily.

DGL is one method of treatment.

Manuka Honey is another.

If you try it out, let us know if it helps. This problem affects a lot of people and it often is a simple H-Pylori infection.

Good Luck

I've been on Omeprazole (Prilosec) for the better part of this year as I get acid reflux pretty much every day. I take 20 mg Omeprazole in the morning, 150 mg Ranitidine (Zantac) before lunch, I also take 4 or 5 Tums if I plan on going to the gym during my lunch break, then I take another 20 mg Omeprazole before dinner. My reflux is mostly under control with this regimen, I get some mild discomfort sometimes but it usually isn't worse than that. Going to the gym is the thing that flares up my reflux the most, my stomach doesn't seem to like it when I exercise. That's why I have to load up on Tums before I work out.

Sugarberry, no, I haven't noticed any increase in d since I've been on Omeprazole. I'm in remission and don't usually have d these days.

I was getting on the forum for this question! I am taking nexium 2x's a day, and it still doesn't seem like it's helping! I am not sure what else to do.

Do not rule out a stricture. Vomiting can be a symptom of blockage. I assumed you have had a scope or CT scan, but if you have not had one, it would be a good idea.

Heartburn is only an issue for me when taking prednisone... I'll take Ranitidine while I'm on steroids, but once I taper I discontinue the Ranitidine.

I was having heartburn daily before I was diagnosed, it went down a lot when I switched to a low-residue diet. But my doctor prescribed a dose of prilosec/omeprazole daily. I didn't think it was doing much and stopped taking it, but soon found out I was wrong and have restarted and the heartburn is back to relatively normal again.

Ever since I was told i had a hiatus hernia I have been on Lanzopral. It is a Godsend!

One 30mg tablet a day completely prevents the heartburn, regardless of what I drink and eat. Except alcohol, nothing seems to prevent this, so I try to steer clear from drinking alcohol
