Hi all :)

Here is a quick breakdown of whats been happening with me lately...

Sept 2010 I was diagnosed with CD after having HORRIBLE pains and nausea for 3-4 months. (Looking back on things i've actually had symptoms for years and just didnt know it)
Anyways... I was admitted into the hospital Oct4th-8th. They gave me 30mg of prednisone daily. One week after being sent home I was admitted back into the hospital AGAIN due to severe pain and nausea again. Just got out on the 28th of October (Not a fun month) The sent me home with 40mg of prednisone daily. I was told to taper off the preds 10mg/week. This is my 1st week of doing so and the pain and nausea is starting to come back strong again... Could it be because the dosage of preds isnt strong enough? Or maybe not working? Has this happened to anyone?
I have been doing SOME reading about Remicade and sounds pretty interesting. Every 6 weeks or so with no pain? Hmmmmm....

Can anyone relate to my story? And does anyone have any advise?

Thanks!!!

Hi Mom of 2

In my own personal experience with Pred, I believe the secret to it is to stay on it for a few months at a high dose then taper. I was on 50mg and only tapered by 10mg every MONTH not week, symptoms did appear to come back once I hit 15mg, so I upped it again then tapered and so on, it's took 10 months but I feel fine now, no symptoms and no pain.
Good Luck!

it might not have been the dose but the amount of time you spent on it, I've never come down that quickly from 40mg. For me it's always been 5mg a week.

Like Joan said, I was also on a higher dose (60mg) for over a month, then tapered by 5mg every week. I wound up being on it for about 6 months.

When I was first diagnosed I was put on Imuran and Prednisone (40mg/day). Do they have you on any other drug other than Prednisone? Also, I was on it for months before they started to taper me off. I would say if the pain is coming back, then the inflammation is coming back, and you should let the doctor know. They will probably keep you on a higher dose of Prednisone longer, or put you on something else to control the inflammation. (possibly in addition to the Prednisone)

Either way, it sounds like it was working, just you need a higher dose to keep the inflammation under control.
