Hey guys,
It's been years since I've posted here, but this forum was such a lifeline when I was first diagnosed in 2011, so I'm really hoping you can help!
I'm currently in a mild/moderate flare, and basically haven't been in remission for probably 6 months. My IBD nurse needs me to do a blood test and fecal calprotectin test to see what the results are before my case is discussed at the next MDT meeting early Feb to see if I should restart biological treatment. (Last calprotectin was around 500).
In the mean time my nurse has offered me a course of steroids, which I turned down. The side effects honestly seem like they would be worse than the Crohn's! I'm getting married in June, which means the next 5 months is about healthy eating, exercise, and generally looking my best in my wedding dress! It is definitely not about a moon face, acne, body hair etc not to mention insomnia and anxiety.
Unless they insist I need them in order to prevent damage to my bowel, I won't be taking them, but is there anything I can do other than just wait for results of the MDT? They haven't discussed diet or anything. I exercise and have a healthy lifestyle, don't drink much, don't smoke, get enough sleep, drink plenty of water etc.
There's lots online about anti-inflammatory foods e.g. leafy greens, salmon, turmeric, nuts etc. and avoiding sugar, red meat etc. or there's low residue for example although that's not very healthy in terms of nutrients.
My Crohn's is limited to my large bowel, if that's relevant!
Anything suggestions welcome!
