I'm concerned how I will feel after both the 4 shots and 2 shot loading doses, what was your experience?

We have been trying to get started on Humira since December and now we are in the worst month for me. We are SO busy this month! My daughter is involved with a performing arts group that has been rehearsing since September for their performance this month. I'm concerned how the loading doses will interfere with me getting her to the extra rehearsals and most importantly, as she has her first speaking roll! - I don't want to miss any of her performances. I would be scheduled for the second loading dose on the day of one of her shows.

With the initial 4 doses in one day, I felt very fatigued and almost had flu-like symptoms for a day, maybe two. After you do the 2 shot loading doses, it was about the same, but not quite as much.

To be honest, within the first week of the first 4 shots, my Crohn's was already greatly improved. Well, at least I FELT better. It took a while for it to heal everything up. Good luck to you!!

Thanks Manzyb, I kind of thought that was the case although I did see some people apparently felt fine after the loading dose. I'm thinking most feel flu-like for a couple days so just to be safe I guess I will to try to schedule around my daughter's play. Unfortunately that puts me another whole week out. Bummer. But I am excited at idea this drug will put me in remission - hopefully for a long time! :)

So happy for you that you have had good results!

Glad I could help some! I dd great on humira for about 5 years :). Let us know how it goes!

My loading dose was while hospitalized during this past Thanksgiving. A few days later I recall being tired all the time and having no energy. I am also on MTX as it increases the potency. So that might have been a factor as well. Humira as well as crohns is very individualized. Some people will notice being tired for the first 2 months while they take there twice a month injection. others will not get tired. Just remember to ice down the injection area before injection to minimize the sting.

Hi Michelle,

So, how did you end up feeling after your 4 shot induction dose? I am having mine tomorrow.

Hi Michelle,

So, how did you end up feeling after your 4 shot induction dose? I am having mine tomorrow.

I felt fine compared to what I was expecting. I was a bit more tired that evening and my legs had a heavy, kinda sore feeling the rest of the day but I didn't notice anything else :ysmile: I was concerned two days later though because I felt like I was coming down with the flu but nothing came of it so I wondered if it was from the loading dose. I thought it was strange it was a couple days later though.

I have my second loading dose this Wednesday. Thankfully I have a follow up with my GI scheduled for first thing that morning as I seem to have a cold and I will feel better having them check me out and make sure I'm good to take the 2 shots later that day :) Peace of Mind ;)

I hope all goes well with your loading dose. Keep me posted. I'd love to hear how it goes for you. Are you going into your GI office to do your loading dose?

I went to my GI office and saw the nurse there who walked me through everything. When I got there she had ice packs ready for me to put on my legs. I iced my legs while we went over some paperwork, and discussed some things. Then she gave me my first shot, and I gave myself the other 3. I admit I had a mini anxiety attack moment before doing the first shot myself but once I did and managed to do the other 2 I felt like I had accomplished an amazing feat and my husband treated me to a big chocolate shake :) Oh and I took the ice packs with me and iced my legs on the way home too.

Well, that sounds promising. The nurse at my GI doc's office is going to teach me. She told me to take some Tylenol before I go as other patients have said that it helps with the pain. I have to go to work right after so I hope that I feel Ok for that.

I will keep you posted!

I would agree with the Tylenol. Everyone is different but I could have made it through a day of work afterwards if I needed to. But make sure you can just relax after work in case you need to!

The only thing that felt differently for me was an ache where the injections had been! I felt completely normal otherwise! Due my next 2 loading doses on Wednesday!

Haha that's nice! You are ahead of me though because you've done some yourself! I got mine done for me lol.

Did you use a syringe or the pen?

But thank you! You too!

I had my four injections this morning and it was a piece of cake! The nurse did all four so that made it much easier. It did hurt a little bit but not a big deal. In two weeks, I will have to try them myself.

So far I feel perfectly fine. I was a bit flushed for a while after but that has subsided.

thanks for everyone's support and advice :)

Tomorrow (or today now, lol) is the day, as others have dubbed it "jab day". I have the pens.

Yes I did do some myself but the trick will be doing it again ALL by myself! :shifty:

Good luck!

I have been on remicade previously and then moved on to Methotrexate. Then I got really well and then the methotrexate didn't agree with my liver at all! It's still not quite recovered and I came off it over 5 years ago lol. :(
