How do I get daughter through colonoscopy prep?

DD finished the miralax 2 hours ago. I have been pushing all kinds of fluids all day. We mixed the miralax in gatorade as instructed. She is still feeling light headed. I am pushing pedialyte now. She is also in misery. She has the cramping on top of the pain she already has. She is so miserable. Test isn't until early afternoon tomorrow. I still need to give her 2 more dulcolax tabs.
This has been the awful experience I expected.

The Dulcolax caused intense cramping and vomiting for A. The Miralax she tolerated fine, but the Dulcolax just didn't agree with her. That being said, the process was necessary and she made it through. Keep pushing fluids and your girl will be fine.

We had to do the dulcolax first. That doesn't make sense to do it after... However I'm still new at all this. Are her stools coming out clear? We ended up having to take a break, but did it when it seemed the stools were pretty clear anyway. Our doc told Jae that she appreciated how clear her bowels were, and she wasn't even able to finish the second bottle of gatorade...

It is hard. A was instructed to take the Dulcolax the night before prep day and she was up ALL NIGHT in terrible pain. I would have given anything to take her place so she didn't have to go through that.

She had to take 2 dulcolax at 8AM and another 2 at 8PM. She drank all the miralax over 2-1/2 hours. It is coming out more and more clear each time. I am hoping that starts to settle down soon so the pedialyte can work. She is light headed and her mouth is dry. Silly me, I thought I was on top of her fluid intake all day.

I just hope we can finally get some answers tomorrow.

Thanks again for the reassurances.

just keep pushing fluids-
we did the same prep 2 ducolax in the morning and 2 in the evening.
plus miralax.
IT will be ok.
just bring a bucket for the car and spare clothes(X2).
dont ask me how I know :ack:

Thanks for the advice and the first laugh all day. I just hate all this. It is very overwhelming to have her diagnosed last month with celiac and possibly this month with Crohns. She has been through the ringer these past 3 months.

oh and since you need the comic relief-
the only good thing about prep is the :puke_r:

is clear - :ywow:

That would be true! We have an hour's drive too.

Thanks for the support ladies. I have peppermint tea steeping for the crampy tummy. She wants me to watch a movie with her while waiting for daddy to get back from the store with more orange popsicles since there were only 3 in the box.

Orange-???
We were not allowed any orange red blue or purple at all .
Text your hubby to get clear pedialyte
Clear gatorade
Invisible Kool aid

Best of luck. The prep is nothing I would EVER want to do again. We had to do it ALL (and I mean ALL without going into too much detail) because we weren't given correct instructions on how to do it. A horrible experience for my daughter and something I never want to do again. Poor thing :( I do have to say she was such a trooper and tried to stay sooo strong.

All GI docs are different but I am allowed orange and blue. Just no red or purple. Just mentioning in case you were worried about the colors. Your GI may have already told you that orange was fine.

Keep us posted! :)

Sigh, nurseminnie, unfortunately, there is no way to make the prep easier. It sucks every time. It's horrible enough for adults, but it borders on torture for children. Even so, it's going to be something you will very likely have to do many more times over the course of her diagnosis and treatment as her life progresses. Hang in there, we're here for you!

What a shame. I totally sympathise - my son was absolutely miserable with the prep - wind, pain, nausea, cramps, it was horrible to watch! Hope all goes well with the test, it will soon be over.

We made it through the night. Poor thing is still going! She is still miseable with the cramping too. I can't wait for this to be over. We have to be at the hospital at 11:30 for a 1 PM procedure.

Thank you so much for all your support and help!

Thinking of you at this rotten time. The preps are the worse without a doubt, just agree with all the above, and also sadly it is something these kids have to try and get used to, my son has his 3rd lots of scopes in 18 months the other week, and at usual the prep was the worse bit. Jelly really helped this time, lemon or lime, or we did half and half to make it more interesting!!

Hope everything goes well for you both x

I'm sure the results will be fabulous (clear bowels for excellent viewing and good specimens) for the difficult time she had. I'm glad that is over and hope she starts feeling better soon. Remind her when she gets to go home that it isn't wise to eat a lot, although she'll be hungry - my daughter overdid it and hurt for a week.

Thanks everyone. The procedures went well. However, we still don't have any answers. The colon looked great. She still has edema in the duodenal bulb and redness in the esophagus. Now we have to wait for the biopsies to come back. So, we continue the protonix and wait until we hear from the doctor.
Since her scopes look good, she probably doesn't have IBD which is great, but she is still in a great deal of pain and having fevers and we don't know why.

I am really pleased it went well for her. The bowel prep is just an awful for anyone to have to do, let alone a child.
We had to do it last week, we used Picolax, not sure if that is the same as your miralax?

I know the very first time we did the bowel prep 3 years ago, my son used a different prep which make him really ill, he seemed to have a severe reaction to it, similar to what you say your daughter went through with the dulcolax. He was so bad we had to stop the treatment and go onto something else.

I hope you manage to get her pain and fevers sorted. It is so hard watching your child go through all this x

Glad it's all over. That's good news that things look ok. Hope the biopsies provide some answers.

Hugs
Farmwife's daughter and my son both had clean looking first scopes with just a little edema .

Both kids have ibd by biopsy.
My son had chronic inflammation throughout with granulomas.

Sending good biopsy vibes

Also have you looked at behcets ??
Mimics ibd and causes fevers

I hope you get good results soon. Scopes won't completely rule out IBD until the small bowel can be seen - MRE and/or video endoscopy - or other tests we didn't have. Sometimes the biopsies show more than the eye, like others said. I hope you can rule it out soon!

Just wanted to let you know we got the biopsy results back from her endoscopy and colonoscopy. They were all negative for IBD. Her small intestine is almost healed from the celiac, the gastritis is gone.
This is all terrific news.
Now we are trying a different angle to find the cause of her pain and fevers.
Thank you all for your support.

That's good news it's negative for IBD. Hope you find out what's causing the pain/fevers soon!

So glad to hear it. I hope she gets better soon. Glad to hear the celiac's is responding to treatment so well too.
