How do the meds really work?!?

Just curious, and pardon my lack of knowledge, does anyone know how each crohns med works and what part of the digestive tract it targets?

I would love to gain some knowledge before I meet with my doc on the 30th. I see a different doc on Feb 5 for a second opionion. As I mentioned on a seperate thread, I'm concerned about going on Imuran (which is what my doc is suggesting). I never taken any long-term meds for crohns and would prefer to start with a drug that "scares" me a little less.....

Did I miss it, or was methotrexate not in that list? Very informative material.

tho they state there is no prescribed regimen for treating IBD, they presented the meds in the typical step up fashion that many doctors seem to follow. The side effects are scary, but they do not hit everyone.

I was scared of imuran too... Then went on it, had to come off it. Odd thing was, after coming off it, I really missed it (or at least the benefits it offered - Versus the remaining choices I was left with AFTER it became toxic for me)

Reality is, all one can do is trust their doc, follow their advice, take the meds, and roll with punches life throws at us from time to time. let us know how you make out
