How long does it take for this stuff to start working? I have been on it for about 2 weeks now and have not really noticed a real change yet. I have never been on it before and this is only my second flare since being diagnosed last January. I was in remission for about 10 months. I am also currently taking asacol as well.

HI there, as a general rule it can take up to 3 weeks, depending on the severity of the diseased area. Entocort is a mild to moderate form of steroid with less side effects than Prednisone. I was on Pentasa (same as Asacol) and Entocort for a month and I ended up having to be on Prednisone. If you find it is not getting better by the mid 3rd week I would contact your Gi before it gets further out of hand. Keep us updated, hope it starts working for ya soon!

If it isn't helping in another week, give the doc a call...He may want to increase your dose......To be honest, I can't remember how long it took to work, so I must have had relief rather quickly. I still had mild symptoms, but the pain was much better while I was on it....Good luck Kirkland.

I was diagnosed with mild crohns last year. I really do not have any pain, my main symptoms are mucosy bloody stools a couple of times a day along with weight loss. I have an appointment with my GI on March 22nd. I really do not want to go on Prednisone, I was on it once before for something else and I did not like the side effects. Other than my own symptoms I do not feel too bad physically at the moment, mentally it just wears on you. Seeing blood in your toilet is can be very unsettling even when you know what is causing it. But I keep praying to God for comfort. Thanks guys for the replies, I appreciate it.

I think it took me about a month or more on Entocort before I felt good, it did seem to be a slower recovery for me than with the Pred. But I feel pretty fantastic right about now after a few months on it so no complaints! Really hope you get some relief soon!

I am on Entocort now and have been since last October. It took me a little longer than normal for it to kick in. When it wasn't working my GI wanted to start me on Remicade but I put it off. The Entocort started working about the first of the year, but I had an obstruction so that would be why it took so long.

I just learned to think of my bloody stools as my body's way of doing an "oil" change and getting fresh lubricant into my body. It helped with the stress part of bleeding. Silly but it helped.

I strongly disagree with the fact that its a mild to moderate steroid. Entocort is 4-fold times stronger than prednisone on the intestines. 9mg of entocort is = 45mg of prednisone almost TOPICAL. only less than 30% of entocort is absorbed. Entocort should not take 2-3 weeks to work if you are on 9mg. I have been on entocort for years. Everyone is different but Not when it comes to steroids for the most part. The usually seem to work. Entocort DOES... work better when you are NOT flaring. If you started it while you were flaring.. Than YES, it can take a few weeks because its building you back up. It Will work though.

Yes, my GI started me on it after I started a flare a few weeks ago. I was just taking asacol. I guess that is more of a maintanence drug.
But why would you take entocort if you are not flaring? I thought steroids were just prescribed when you were flaring, not as a constant drug.

If you are in a second flare and Asacol wasnt working they sometimes take a step up, with another to help control because you wean off the Entocort. I was on Entocort for 7 years as a maintaince drug after my first resection. Some doctors just don't want to see it get out of control. Entcort is mild and maybe the asacol isnt enough. If you still have concerns about it, ask your doctor why.

Entocort wasn't enough to get me off of pred! I honestly didn't notice any effect while I was on it.
