How long of a chance should Entocort get?

Context: been creeping into this flare for a few weeks with cramping after eating, but it worsened over this last weekend with the RLQ pain and nausea that I've had in my previous flares. I went onto full liquids on Saturday afternoon, called GI on Monday, he wanted to give Entocort another chance despite not responding to it last time, because I basically refuse to take prednisone unless I'm actively dying. Fine, we'll give it a whirl.

He says it should start working within a week. I've heard on this forum and elsewhere that it takes longer than that.

However, I am getting worse. Noticeably. Pain is moving from "inconvenient" to "I don't want to leave the house anymore," and has developed in a second focus (LLQ) which concerns me, and the nausea has turned into vomiting (though not with everything, but at least once a day, mostly in the evening, despite Zofran q8h.)

Should I keep waiting on the budesonide? Between that and the bowel rest, should I really be feeling worse? I mean - if that's to be expected - cool. I'll wait it out. I just don't want to call the GI four days later when he said to give it a week. Ya know?

Thanks guys. Your experience and wisdom is priceless at times like this.

For me, Entocort took about 9 days for me to feel a noticeable difference. Others on here have said it can take up to a month.

However, it sounds like you might be in too severe of a flare for Entocort to do the trick. Entocort is pretty mild and might not work if the flare is too strong. You might want to call your GI and mention the worsening symptoms and especially the vomiting. Vomiting is never a good sign. Also, Entocort pretty much just works on one area, which is around the terminal ileum/right colon. If you've got a new pain on the left, I think Entocort won't work there. You might need something else besides Entocort to blitz this flare. Good luck, I hope you get some relief soon.

Finally gave in and called the doc today... was given the option of being admitted for the weekend for IV steroids or going back on prednisone. I chose the prednisone (though I admit I'm already kind of regretting it... pred absolutely wrecks me). And I'll start Remicade soon.

Sad... I wish the Entocort would work for me, but this is round 2 with no response to it.

Kris, we all have the love/hate thing with the pred!

But it WORKS...so, we have to live with it. I hope it does the trick for you quickly (no doubt it will) and that you are feeling good again very soon.

Bit late with my response... It took a whole month for me to get any difference but when it happened it made me feel so much better.
I'm sorry it hasn't worked for you and hope the new treatment makes you feel much better very soon
