Hi, I would like to try Zinc since I have read several articles that it can help with warts. I'm having skins issues due to years of 6MP. Does anyone know how much is safe? I bought 50mg from target tonight. I've never had my zinc level checked.

This link has some info https://medlineplus.gov/druginfo/natural/982.html#Safety and on doses used in research.

"Are there safety concerns?
Zinc is LIKELY SAFE for most adults when applied to the skin, or when taken by mouth in amounts not larger than 40 mg daily. Routine zinc supplementation is not recommended without the advice of a healthcare professional. In some people, zinc might cause nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, metallic taste, kidney and stomach damage, and other side effects. Using zinc on broken skin may cause burning, stinging, itching, and tingling.

Zinc is POSSIBLY SAFE when taking by mouth in doses greater than 40 mg daily. There is some concern that taking doses higher than 40 mg daily might decrease how much copper the body absorbs. Decreased copper absorption may cause anemia."

Checking with your doctor is a good idea.

Just to add to xmdmom's mention, I've tried taking zinc tablets in the past, small amounts and larger amounts. I also tried different kinds. The result for me was the same, cramping and upset stomach for a day or two.

Hopefully you have a better experience than I've had with zinc.

I've been prescribed 50mg daily by my dermatologist for hair loss. It makes me nauseous if I don't have it directly after or with a meal and sometimes forget to take it.
If I forget too often I really start to notice it, dry and itchy skin, sensitivity to some metal jewelry and last but not least, wrinkles in my face!

I was tested before I started and was low. I suggest you get tested first too as it probably won't do much if you're not deficient.
I have no idea whether it will do anything for warts though, aren't they viral?
