Can having a flare up feel just like a tummy bug? When i had my first one ever in June with lots of blood and small clots i would rush to the toilet within half a hour of eating, suffering cramps. Also the diaherra was very watery and during the horrible 3 weeks it lasted the stools were green, light brown and yellow. This is why i was confused whether it was a stomach virus or not? I had a sore throat as well. They dx IBD Aug 1st. Will a flare up happen again whether I am on mesren or not?

Thankyou

Flares can happen at different intervals - if you are in remission, enjoy it - my flares used to come closer and closer together as medications would wear off/keep them at bay for a shorter time.

I would say if you had bleeding and the other sypmtoms you mentioned, I would think it was more than a bug.

Everyone's different. Some people experience long term remission while others experience short term remissions.

Some people experience it seasonally. I always tend to flare right in the winter time and once in the summer. I don't know why.

If you are really seeing for long term remission, watch your diet and see what affects you.

I was officially diagnosed in 2011 but have been sick since 2008 with Ground symptoms including joint pain...fever...etc. So in the past 3.5 years I've been sick/flaring up about 2-3 times a year. That's been my personal experience. I was hospitalized 8 days at the end of April...out of work for 7 weeks felt good for about 2.5 months...and now im sick again.

HI Lara, Flare ups are unpredicatable they tend to spring up at anytime time. from your post i don't think it's a stomach bug. i seems to me that your flaring up now. and you should mentioned it to your doctor asap. Especially if there is blood and blood clots in your stool. it could mean a fistula, or ulcers it's hard to tell without a colonosopy. But i would seek immeditate attention if i were you.best wishes.
