So had my colonoscopy monday and they took biopsies again. This GI said my crohns was very severe and way more progressed then my dx in june. He is gathering info and I go back after thanksgiving for meds. This asacol isn't doing much is there something else? (I am allergic to sulfa). Also my face is still a mess from 5 months of pred! Anyone know a good brand to clear it up? Proactive, clinque, neutrogena, etc. Any suggestions would be great. SOoooooo happy to have a definite dx and get on the track with the best meds! Thank you guys for all the support!!

I'm a huge fan of DDF products for my face. I've been using them for years, even through the 'roids, and haven't had much more than a pimple or two come out. You can purchase them at Sephora, both in person and online. Specifically, I use their sensitive face wash and their oil-free moisturizer.

I'm happy for you that you have a diagnosis and can now move forward with a better treatment!

Sorry to hear that it has progressed, hopefully your doctor can find you a good medicine that will help! I am pretty much in the same position right now. It's just trial and error, I guess I'll have to learn that.

Oh as for the acne, I had been using this organic tea tree oil before I got my first flare, and even though I've been on Pred. for almost a month now, I haven't had any acne! Except for in the hospital I didn't use it for 5 days cause it wasn't with me, but it quickly went away after I got back on : ) I got it from a store called The Body Shop. Awesome store. I get the Tea Tree Oil wash, toner and moisturizer and my skin is somewhat sensitive but I had no problems unlike with AcneFree which burned my face. Should check it out, here's a link http://www.thebodyshop-usa.com/skin-care-best-sellers/prod170248

I at one point got a script to deal with pred acne It cleared it up really fast.
As far as meds you will most likely be going into the DMARDS (methotrexate, Immuran) or Biologics (remicade, Humira, Cimizia) or a combo of both. I suggest reading up on all of them so when you go back to the doc you can make an informed choice. There are pros and cons to all of em. Good luck!

I've been told that by several GP's and dermatologists (suffered from severe acne prior to CD) that over the counter stuff doesn't work for acne, its designed for the odd spots, not sure how true this is, others may disagree.

Personally, my GP prescribed me Zineryt, its a topical solution that you apply to the affected areas, so obviously it doesn't come with any anti-biotic side effects such as diarrhea that can make your CD worse. However, it can only be used for three months at a time due to resistances being built up.
