My daughter is on home bound at the moment due to a bad flare. This is her first year at Jr. High and new kids. She has had Crohns since kindergarten and most of our local kids understand the "moon face" and all but its the newer kids that are now thrown in the mix (kids from other schools and 2 older grades) that have put my daughter in a panic! She is on a 504 program but only to retake test if she fails the first time. Is there anything else I can ask for through the disability act or something from her school? Too late in the year to star home school or would do that for sure!!! Btw we are in Tennessee.
Thank you

I posted this on your other thread too, but just put it here too.

We're in Kansas...but We worked with the school councelor who worked with our son's core teachers. They wrote out the plan. He also is in junior high. They tailored his 504 to his needs. Stated in the 504 is a year long bathroom pass; He's allowed to leave a classroom without a pass...or if its an emergency- without even talking to the teacher. It states that he may miss large amounts of school if he flares. They want me to pick up homework daily, but only if possible, and teachers work with me to keep him caught up. It states that he's allowed to make up all homework and 'master the concepts' before he is ever tested over the material. And there is a part about PE...if he needs to sit out or take breaks. And if he needs to take any kind of medicine or supplements at school he will be given time during school to do this with the nurse.

Hi tnsunshine,
Just adjusted my sons 504 are we only had free access to bathroom at anytime without permission.
We added late work without penalty. Most of them will want a date we put in by the week of finals.
We had GI write a letter about symptoms/missing school. Absences are now medically excused.
He is allowed to go lay in the nurses office if needed.
He is allowed to have his drinks and snacks throughout the day. (Even though there is no food/drinks allowed in hallway).
My son is in 8th grade this year but last year when starting 7th grade, like your daughter a majority of the kids he had gone to school with since kindergarten and knew all about his Crohn's. They were a really good support group and stood up for him and didn't allow any of the other kids to make fun of him.
We have a yearly meeting for 504 but you can make adjustments at anytime like I just did if you find you need to have additional accomodations
