York,
They determined I def have IBD..now just to figure out which one..they just did a small bowel series today and blod work is Friday.

How did urs get determined???:ybatty:

Did you already have a colonoscopy? That was one of the ways I got my diagnosis. They took a tissue sample to biopsy when I had my colonoscopy. I also had a CT scan and MRI, but I don't know what those results showed. I think there are a few ways to get a diagnosis. But I am new to the forum. I'm sure some others will respond with more info.

i had an endoscopy and colonoscopy and they told me right out of there that I had Crohn's. However, i had crohn's all the way from mouth to anus, it was EVERYWHERE.

I know a small bowel series will show if there is evidence of crohn's in the small bowel, or even a pill cam to see where inflammation is.

Yea colonoscopy The findings were several polyps, patchy inflammation in the descending colon, several eroIons with granularity and erythema in the descending and sigmoid colon.
The colonoscopy was inclusive to if it's chrons or colitis

Endoscopy showd nothing but a little acid reflux.

My doc said blood work should help them decide?!

My small bowel series I'm not sure if it would show inflMation now as my flare s almost gone.

I have mouth sores which makes them think chrons but my GI is determend to get a correct dx and no guessing.

My doc also wants me to start Ascoel (sp??) but it's $333! Needless to say I haven't started. I can't see paying all that money and he wants to change it

geez, that's expensive. I never paid that much for Asacol, but I have really good insurance. I thought that was a cheaper drug. boo

That is good that he doesn't want to diagnose it unless he is positive, but I think people use Asacol for Crohn's and Colitis? I could be wrong.

I was officially DX by Colonoscopy & upper endoscopy. Apparently the biopsies showed active crohn's in every place they biopsied from mouth to stomach & then from ileum to rectum. I really think my disease wouldn't be severe if they would've diagnosed me earlier. Just got to roll with the punches though :)

@Fosterfamily: Whenever I was on Asacol, my GI called up the drug rep & I got ALL of my asacol for 'free'. Whenever I went to my GI's office, he just gave me the free samples rather than right me a RX. My insurance is amazing but the free samples really did help, financially. Maybe you can look into that?

diagnosis and affordable Rx

Fosterfamily:
I was diagnosed, officially, after my second set of colonoscopy and endoscopy in Sept of 2011. They biopsied ulcers in my terminal illium and those were consistent w/ Crohn's. I wasn't in a flare during my first tests, so the results were inconclusive. Just stay on your Dr., though it sounds like they are already working hard to give you concrete answers/diagnosis.

As for the medication costs, I know what you mean. I don't have a great insurance plan and because of my diagnosis can't get on a better plan. Thankfully I can't be denied coverage, they just don't have to give me the better plans. All that is to say, I don't have Rx coverage and so medications have been very, very expensive. I am a graduate student and don't have the money to be paying for this. But, if you do have IBD and/or Crohn's the medications are very necessary to obtain and maintain remission. I have found that my most afforable option is to buy my Rx through Canadian pharmacies. Jandrugs.com has the lowest prices I have found, their customer service is very helpful, and they are quick.

Keepingfaith:
I would love to know more about this obtaining of Rx fromt he drug reps. Would I have to go through my Dr. for this, or can I do this myself by contacting the company?

My GI actually has a 'deal' set up with the drug reps & so does my Rhuemie. I don't know if it's an 'Alabama' thing(highly doubt it because I know of many others across the states that do it) but if I ever need a prescription & my insurance won't cover it(due to me being under 18) or because it's too expensive my mom just asks "Do you have free samples?" Most doctors have free samples on hand unless they already handed them out to other patients.

From my understanding, if a office, like the gastroenterologists office, contacts the drug company(Let's just say Abbott) & start prescribing more medication from that company to their patients, like Humira, then they get free samples. Win for everyone! The GI's office gets free samples in exchange for endorsing a drug(or prescribing it, rather). Just ask your GI if they have a relationship with the drug reps for Asacol & if they have free samples on hand. Usually the drug reps come at a certain time every week/month to drop of free samples as a 'thank you' for endorsing their drug.

I had a endo/colonoscopy which found some minor inflammation in my small ileum. They found an ulcer in my esophagus. The biopsy didn't really show any Crohns. My doc had me do the Prometheus blood test which came back positive for Crohns.
