how would you explain?

Even though I've been feeling like crap I had to get a job to help pay for all this crap! :( my question is, how would you explain cd to your boss? I think its a good idea i tell him considering I may have to miss days of work due to it and to get my remicade. Any advice is welcome and appreciated!

There are some leaflets on the NACC/ Crohn's and Colitis UK website. Personally I would print one off and add my own notes about how CD affects me. Then I would go see my boss and explain 'I have a long-term health condition but it is being treated. Here's some information, let me know if you have any questions.' It's probably a good idea to offer to make up hours if you need time off for something scheduled, then if you do need time off because you're sick, your boss is less concerned about it. I very rarely have to make the time up, but my bosses appreciate the offer!

I can't think of any better advice than what Rebecca suggested. Sounds pretty solid to me.

Thankfully I've only worked for two different companies since my diagnosis 16 years ago, so I don't have to explain it often.

I just told my bosses straight up, here's the situation and while it's unfortunate, there will be hours or even days from time to time where I'm off having some procedure or just visiting some doctor. (I've got some other issues aside from CD that also involve taking time off now and then.)

I counter that statement by working my a$$ off when I am at work, even on days when I can barely think due to some pain or other.

While I'm grateful that I'm able to take the time when I need it, I make sure to let it be known that I don't take advantage of the flexibility.
