I was wondering if anyone has experienced severe mood swings on Humira? My son is 17 and started Humira in the beginning of May , he is also on Prednisone but is now slowly weening off. His mood swings have been horrible. Very quick to anger. Do you think its the steroids or the combination of both? Any comments would be helpful. The Humira has worked to get his Crohns under control but he isn't the easiest to be around lately.

Hi sruberti, the mood swings will be coming from the prednisone.. humira never gave me any mood problems and I never heard anyone else complain about humira doing that to them. But prednisone everyone complains about biting people heads off lol.. usually he's either on high dose or decreasing his dose will do that.. I finally came off pred last year and 40 mg isn't as high as I have seen some people dosage, but it was high enough for me to get all the side effects you will see people writing about.. it took humira to finally get me off of pred I was getting dependant on it.

Thanks, he started out taking 40 mg and we have been going down weekly by 5 mg. so he's close to being finished. The doctor said he would be back to himself within 48 hours after his last dose. He has improved compared to a few weeks ago. Pain in the you know what. The only side effect he has had with Humira is he will cramp up a little in his hands and legs the following day after injection. He'll deal with a little cramping as long as it keeps him out of the hospital:)
