Humira and Prednisolone Combined

Hello everyone,

Been on Humira for just over 10 weeks.

Loading dose didn't go down too well, GI believes I had an infection straight after it and had a really bad flare, I was put on steroids when I was admitted into Hospital.

I came off after a few days because I really didnt want to stay on steroids (because I had battled 9 months trying to taper off and finally did when I was put on Remicade.) Anyway, my condition didn't improve so I decided to go back on steroids 40mg, and wow did it make a big difference, within a few days I felt great.. I was on them for 4 weeks but tapered down pretty quick as the GI and IBD nurse kept saying its too 'risky' to stay on steroids and Humira as there is a higher risk to get infections etc.

Thing is, I felt so active and I had so much energy on Humira and Steroids (dont know if it was both combined or just steroids that were giving me that boost) and now I am off steroids and just on 2 week Humira I am always drained and my condition hasn't really improved a great deal.

My question is, has anyone been on both Humira and Steroids together, and how long for? Anyone had any problems being on both?

I've been on Prednisone since December and Humira since February. Prednisone gives me tons of nervous type energy, especially at the higher doses (40mg-20mg). I got tons of projects done around the house - Mostly in the middle of the night since I couldn't relax to sleep very much, lol. I am on my second attempt getting off the prednisone. I can't imagine getting off it so quickly, I'm jealous! I am currently at just 5mg and will be going down to 2.5mg next week. I'm not so sure Humira is doing much for me either. I'm experiencing a lot of tightness in a few areas in my stomach, as well as bloating and unfortunately the joyous "big D" has returned. I thought Humira would be helping some of this by now....

I have not had any issues with getting sick, not even a cold....and I have a 6yo who I thought would bring something home to me especially this past winter!

It gives me tons of energy too and I was non stop working around the house and the garden. But 2 weeks after coming of them, it all came back.

Dr's keep saying its too risky to stay on both, but doesnt feel like Humira is doing the trick.

Just wish there was a simple solution, been such a difficult 1 year.

Not sure how many people are on both together..
