Has anyone used humira during pregnancy or breast feeding? I am considering getting pregnant in the next few months but I'm on humira and not sure if I can continue the drug. During my first pregnancy I took remicade throughout the pregnancy with no issues. I did stop while nursing but was hoping humira was safe for nursing as well.

Probably not the conclusive answer you were hoping for but this is straight from the Humira page.

"Can I use HUMIRA if I'm pregnant or breastfeeding?

Tell your doctor if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, breastfeeding or plan to breastfeed. HUMIRA should only be used during a pregnancy if needed. Women who are breastfeeding should talk to their doctor about whether or not to use HUMIRA. Women and their doctor should decide whether to breastfeed or use HUMIRA. You should not do both.

Pregnancy Registry: Abbott Laboratories has a registry for pregnant women exposed to HUMIRA. The purpose of this registry is to check the health of the pregnant mother and her child. Talk to your doctor if you are pregnant and contact the registry at 1.877.311.8972."

Thank you!! Breast feeding is very important to me so I was really hoping I could stay on humira. Guess I will have to look into other medication options when that time comes :(

I can truly understand and from everything I read breast feeding is the best option for a child's growth and possible future illness prevention. Humira may be an option for you though so just speak with your GI to see what they think. It may be safe with simple monitoring and the company just doesn't want to make a statement for fear of litigation. Best of luck to you!

One thing to consider is your health
unhealthy flaring mom is no so good for a young baby either.
I did nurse both my kids and was very much against the "evil" formula
even when I had to remove multiple food groups from my diet since Ds was allergic.
by age 7 we actually had to add formula to his diet ( due to undx crohn's) at the time.

He still is on formula supplement now two years later.

my point being at the end of the day breastmilk or formula is just food.
and whatever keeps both MOM and baby healthy /growing is the way to go.

Wishing you the best in your very hard personal decision
hope your ped and GI can help.
