Humira and Steroids

Hi everyone

I was just wondering if anyone was put on Humira to try to get off steroids (or reduce them) and how long after starting the Humira you were able to come down on the steroids without the symptoms returning?

Hi!

I was on 20mg prednisone. I started humira, and slowly tapered off the prednisone after 3 months. Right now I'm only on humira, and the plumbing is working great. I get joint pain once in awhile, but it's nothing like before

I think I too was around 20mg when starting Humira. I made it down to 5mg before flaring again :-( My GI put me all the way back up to 40mg......I cried! I am having horrible side effects from it and can't even tell if anything is working at this point. I am now tapering back down off the prednisone and am at 20mg. I'm praying that it will go smoothly this time! Glad to see things are going well for you Hermione!

I started the taper at 3months, I got quick results with humira, I felt better within the first month. My dr said I was very sensitive to this drug

I did the taper in just under 3 months and other than withdrawl pain I was ok.

I have started Humira 3 times now for various reasons, all 3 times I just did 40,30,20,10 after second loading dose. 7 days at each mg, after reading numerous threads I see this typical isn't normal and some people have a real hard time comming off of them. Longest I was on prednisone at one time was 6 ish months I wanna say.

Try whatever doctor says and if you notice any issue contact him immediately so he can slow taper. My GI just always gives me extra prednisone so I can make necessary adjustments if need be during taper.

Ya, my son did a very slow taper from 40mg once he started on Humira. We found that he had to drop by just 5mg a week and he stayed 2 weeks at 20 mg and 2 weeks at 10 mg and then just dropped by 2.5 mg a week from 10 down to 0. He's totally off now and is doing well on Humira and mtx.
