Hi folks!

Been awhile since I have been able to write, but my health has been stable for the past few weeks after being put on a steroid. Of course, I don't have the bottle beside me otherwise I would share the name! I refused to take prednisone again, I had lots of side effects so I now refuse to take it at all.

I'm going to see my GI tomorrow and I'm pretty sure that I will be starting Methotrexate which I will administer once a week. I also am on 40mg of Humira per week. My GI has told me that it isn't a very common combination but people do it.

I'm a bit nervous, as I am before taking any medication (I had a bad allergic reaction to Imuran), so I'm just curious if anyone could tell me their experience with Methotrexate or a combination of Methotrexate and Humira. I've been on Humira now for around three years, so I don't have an issue with that one!

Thanks guys, and I hope nobody is having a bad flare-up! For those of you who are, just try and relax, I know how evil those flareups can be!:ghug:

Until next time,
JT

I have not taken it, but my Dr has talked about Methotrexate and Cimzia(which I am currently on) so I think the combination of a biologic and methotrexate has been something that Drs are trying. Sorry not a lot of info, but hopes this helps.

I was on methotrexate alone at first. After 8 months, and no real improvement, my doc added Humira to the mix, and I was on the combo of the two for another 10 months. I did improve once I started the Humira. I asked my doc if I could stop the mtx, because it would make me tired and nauseous for 2 days every week. I've been fine since discontinuing the mtx. But, I have heard of others using the combo with success. Just wanted to give you my experience.

Using an immunosuppressent and biologic in combo helps to reduce the rate you develop antibodies to the biologic, as well as reduce the ability of the immune system to produce the inflammatory antibodies. Humira and MTX is pretty hefty!
Hope it works for you.

Hi,

Don't have any experience of the combination, but I've been told this is probably my next stop if weekly Humira doesn't do the trick on it's own. I'd be interested to hear how you get on.

Hope things work work out for you.

Mark
