Hi all. First post here

Ive been suffering from Crohns Colitis for over 15 years and have been on and off various meds over the years.

Started taking Methotrexate 25mg 5 months ago and its def made a improvement in terms of weight gain and formed stools.
My doc has now suggested than he wants me to try either Humira or Remicade as Methotrexate long term may not be so good.

Humira sounds the most practical as I can inject it myself than going to the hospital for the Remicade infusions. I have had 2 Remicades infusions years ago when it first was trialled and did not notice any difference then so think it may be useless to me again. But my doc has said i need to give it another chance with regular infusions for it to work.

So what should I go for?

Thanks

If you look at the forum wiki entries for infliximab(remicade) and adalimumab(humira), for more info on both as well as studies on both that have been posted in the Books, Multimedia, Research and News sub forum.

My son takes Remicade and has for a year now. The infusions aren't so bad, he seems to enjoy the down time but being 16, a day out of school is a day out of school, kwim?

I think some of the studies do state that Remicade has a higher efficacy rate than Humira but you could research that in the sub forum I mentioned above.

It can take Remicade up to six infusions for efficacy and I think 12 weeks on Humira but I could be wrong on the Humira.

Good luck with your choice and I hope it works well for you!

There is no real way to answer this, because no way of telling if 1 or both of the medicines will work for you. I prefer the Humira for reasons you stated. Remicade does have a more proven tract record with fistulas from what I have been told by GI. 1 advantage of remicade is being able to adjust dosage and time frames more freely then humira.

Humira worked for me and remicade or cimzia hasn't so I like humira.
