Hello I am new to this forum and have a question I hope someone can help with. My son was getting his humira dosage in hospital this week and it bounced. the nurse managed to reinject it quickly but some of the dosage spilt. Should I be concerned? The nurse checked with her supervisor and I was advised as he had received "some" of it, it would be OK. She guessed about 20mls was lost but I am not so sure.

Bounced! That is a load of bull! You should check with your doctor. The same thing happened to me when I was in the hospital. My doctor tore the nurse a new a**hole, made the hospital pay for the wasted one, and told them to order a replacement immediately!

I had a pen misfire once. Most of it was injected, but subdermally rather than subcutaneously. So, I had a huge bump on my skin. I imagined about half of it leaked out though. I called my GI's office immediately because I was freaked and I was informed that it would be okay as long as I received most of it. I did notice my stomach was a lot more grumbly in between that injection and the next time, so your son may want to be more conservative in his diet to not cause any extra pain :)

Can you give your GI a call and get their opinion? Better safe than sorry.

You can't know how much actually got injected, if the pen is lifted away the collar locks and will prevent the needle going back into skin. The dose should be re-administered if there is any doubt.

That was an expensive miss. Why are they using the pen in hospital/clinic? They should be using the regular injections. That aside, another dose should be administered. While mistakes happen...I would 1) complain to the doctor, and 2) never let that nurse touch my son again.
