Hello all! I have been on imuran since being diagnosed with CD in December of 2013 and started this past summer/fall having a sun reaction and itching constantly with it. As well as its other risks I talked with my gi and we both decided maybe humira would be best. So today I did the 4 pen loading dose in my thighs. And man did they burn terrible. I had this done around 10 am and when I woke up from my nap before night shift on two of the sites I had what looked like big mosquito bites on the injection site! Hot and itchy as well. After a shower and cold compresses they don't look as bad or itch as bad but I was just wondering if this is normal, should I contact my doctor, will these get better with time and if I'm going to have to stop the humira. Thanks in advance for the advice! :)

Yes, it is one of the side effects. I have been on Humira (injections - not the pin) for 1 1/2 years and I still get the huge welt that itches for a couple days afterwards. In the beginning it lasted around five days before it subsided. Well wishes for you!

Did you do anything to help it from not itching as much? I just don't want to be taking Benadryl every two weeks for it!

No, just ice. I can't do benadryl well; I am super sensitive to meds. the dose last weekend I really hived up larger than I had in a while, probably egg sized.

I can't handle Benadryl well either. Have you tried other areas to object to? I keep reading that different areas other than my thighs might go better. Like the back of the arm or abdomen

I use my abdomen. I first tried my thigh; never tried my arm. Seems like that would be more tender. :)
