Hello all! I have been on imuran since being diagnosed with CD in December of 2013 and started this past summer/fall having a sun reaction and itching constantly with it. As well as its other risks I talked with my gi and we both decided maybe humira would be best. So today I did the 4 pen loading dose in my thighs. And man did they burn terrible. I had this done around 10 am and when I woke up from my nap before night shift, around 5 on two of the sites I had what looked like big mosquito bites on the injection site! Hot and itchy as well. After a shower and cold compresses they don't look as bad or itch as bad but I was just wondering if this is normal, should I contact my doctor, will these get better with time and if I'm going to have to stop the humira. Thanks in advance for the advice! :)

Hey!!! Been on Humira 7 yrs. Totally normal for me. Especially if you just did your 4 initial shots. They will be very red and itchy and yes feel hot. I even used to get a little rash in the injected area. It does get better. It always burns when injecting but I don't get as much irritation afterwards anymore. Make sure you inject in a different spot. I always do my belly but switch sides. 1 week right side and left the next. Good luck to you. This drug has brought me much relief.
Are you using the automatic injectoe or syringe? Once I switched to the syringe it was much better for me. The injector left more of an irritation.

I am using the injector pen. It was weird because the nurse who taught me said I could only do the stomach or thighs but not my arm and recommended I do my thigh? I'm not sure why. It seems like the general census is that the stomach hurts less. I just didn't know if there was anything people did to help with the pain after.

For me stomach hurts much less. I have more fat to grab but not so much on thighs. I was injecting in thighs after my colectomy and that hurt much more. Try stomach area next time. With time it will get better but can't lie it will always burn going in. You can ways switch to the syringe and see if that is best for you.

Awesome thank you! I'm hoping by maybe icing after and taking some allergy meds maybe the mosquito bite around the injection site won't be as bad or itch as much!

Hi ive just had my first four loading shots this week taken with my gastro nurse. She did first and it did burn going in, so did the other three i did but not for too long. She recommended stomach not thigh and notto squeeze skin just to relax (easier said than done!). I did two on left and two on right. Left hurt more as right has lots of scarring so numb. Gastro nurse said injecting near to scars was no problem. Had temp since but no site problems thankfully. Hope this med works!

I like to inject in my tummy - a few good fat rolls there. I do get a little red and itchy at the injection site, but I put some cortisone or benadryl cream on it to calm it down. I prefer the pen for injecting, can't hold a syringe steady and I can't watch a needle going into my skin even when someone else does it. I'm a wuss on that count.
