Hi Everyone,
This is my first post to this forum. I am a 47 years old overweight male.
I decided to post this as I am wondering if you guys can help me to gather the courage to go and see my doctor. I am a nervous person who thinks every thing is Cancer. I am afraid to go see the doctor and find out that I have the big C.

About a year ago, I started to notice Diarreah and constipation, mucus in stool etc.
I have cramps in the lower right stomach. And oddly, notice some bumps in that area too, under the skin.

Now a days, I have had problems with eyes (inflamed) pain etc., alternating constipation and diareah, gas and bloating, tiredness, muscle aches, joint pain in fingers and knees etc. as well pain behind the right shoulder blade.

My symptoms seem to point to IBD. I have never noticed any blood in stool. But the stool is always changing.

So please tell me, is it likey IBD? Appreciate everyones comments.

Hello Bobbutkin-Welcome to the forum. Very sorry to hear you are not feeling well, and haven't for awhile. For me, it sounds like it could be IBD. I had many of the same issues for about 2 years befor my Dx three months ago - and I never show blood. I was dx'd with Chron's.
I certainly recommend seeing a doc asap, don't end up in the ER like me as a last resort (well, they did misdiagnos me with an ulcer or over a year). Tests like CT scans and GI follow throughs are not so bad and can give you a wealth of info.
best wishes - hope you feel better soon.

Go call the GI immediately. You need to really get things checked out. WHat have been the color of your stool. Best of luck

I was like you and procrastinated seeing the doctor for about 2 years. When I finally went, my Crohns was so out of control that I had to have a pretty major surgery to treat it. My doc said that if I had gone sooner it would have been likely that medication alone would have done the trick.

Hello Bob

Cancer is one of the least likely diseases for your symptoms. I know because I checked it out pretty thoroughly before I was diagnosed with Crohn's.

And even if it was, it won't go away by ignoring it. Your symptoms could be IBD but there is no way of knowing without a battery of tests.

From one overweight 40 something male to another, it is better to get it figured out so you can treat it, rather than have several yards of intestines removed later on because it was not addressed.

I am doing very well now, that is why I am getting so freakin fat. I was sixty pounds lighter from this disease less than two years ago. Sicker than a dog too.

Go have it checked out so you do not have to worry about it being cancer. You will be glad you did.

hi & welcome bob. yep, i would reiterate the sentiments of everyone who's posted on here - take the bull by the horns and go see a gastro doctor asap. these symptoms need diagnosing, you need to know, for your own sanity, whats going on, and if it is something like IBD, the worry will be making it worse :(

it might be a case of diagnosing, finding appropriate meds, and all will settle down - in which case you'd kick yourself for suffering so long without seeking help.

now that you've found this forum, whatever steps, tests, results etc you go through from this point onwards, you can share with us all here - we've a lot of experience between us all, & the members on here are really supportive.

best of luck - and please, get yourself seen - you deserve to feel better than you do right now!

Welcome, I won't repeat what's been said, but will say I agree....as far as what it could be, it could be a simple instance of something more minor than Crohns, like IBS. Finding out will be the best option, you never know how much worse you could be getting each day untreated.

Thank you everyone for your support and encouraging comments.
I will be booking an appointment with the doctor soon.

Jeff D. - The colour of my stool varies from light brown to sort of darker shade. But never black. Its the consistency of it that varies a great deal. In the same round, it can go from hard to liquidy...

Thanks again everyone.

Hi Bob.. Welcome to the Forum. Hope the posts from the others have helped you decide to see a doctor and get diagnosed. Avoiding this will only make it worse.

It could be IBD, or you might luck out and discover that it is IBS instead. The lack of bleeding is a good sign, but not conclusive evidence one way or the other. The thing of it is, the sooner you are accurately diagnosed, the sooner you can begin PROPER treatment. Without that, you are just asking for trouble with a CAPITAL 'T'. My Dad had a terrible fear of cancer; between my mom being told that she was terminal; less than 6 months.. (WRONG, still going 45 years later) AND his dad dying at 61 from it... he spent years worrying that he was going to die from cancer... OVER 40 years of worrying before it did get him

So, in the end... in his case.. it was inevitable... but it didn't have to rob him of the joy he could have experienced otherwise if he hadn't worried about it. My Mom, on the other hand... chose NOT to worry, NOT to expect that it would win
and it didn't. Not sure if there is a 'cancer' beating method to her 'madness'.. but there sure is a great lesson in how to live one's life. Does that make sense?

All the best...

Thanks Kev. Fear is indeed the worst enemy.

Jeff D. I have not called the GI yet. Living in Canada, first I have to go to the family physician, which I will be doing soon.

Thanks for your responses everyone.

I agree with you on fear being the worst enemy. It causes us Cronies even more problems because the worry adds to our symptoms.

I try to face everything head on because I just hate thinking about problems. The faster I resolve them, the less I have to think about them.

Let us know how it goes for you. We are always here for support or just to listen. I hope it turns out to be a relatively minor problem.

Good Luck

Dan

Hello Bob and welcome to the forum.. :)
Your symptoms don't sound like cancer, and it also could be IBS,
but, I would get to the family doctor ASAP and get a referral to a G.I. doc,
as I know here in Ontario it takes awhile.
I'm a few hours south of you.

Welcome aboard and please let us know how you make out.

Hugs~Nancy

You keep saying that you are seeing the doctor "soon". It's a good idea to make it a priority and get the ball rolling. Don't be afraid and let things go on. You'd hate to find out you could have had it easier if you had attended to it rather than trying to put out a fire with an eyedropper by waiting too long. Do go see the doctor asap. It's best in the long run every time.

Hey Cara haven't seen you in a while. How are you doing?

But to get to the original post, you really need to call the GI tomorrow first thing in the morning. The more you put it off the worse you are going to feel and the longer it will take to recover.
