I had my colonoscopy today and everything looks normal even though I had lots of blood in my stool during stomach attacks 4 or 5 times this year. So my diagnosis is ibs. I'm kind of upset since there is nothing I can do about it. Fiber makes it worse and I feel like the foods that I can eat are becoming more limited every day. I can't even eat raw veggies anymore. I'm so worried that I'm never going to feel any better.

I'm sorry you're feeling so frustrated Tiffany. Perhaps it's worth seeing a dietician if you haven't seen one already and coming up with a diet plan that will work best for you? Try and drink lots of water if you can, my Mum has IBS and says that drinking up to 2 litres of water a day seems to make a difference. Things like Green Tea are also beneficial. Do you eat much bread? It might be worth substituting bread for something like rice crackers right now, just to see if that makes a difference. Try not to worry-hopefully once you sort out which foods are right for you and which aren't you'll start to feel much better soon.

The same thing happened to me in 2004. Endoscopy, biopsy, everything checked out. I had a surgery in January '06, which left me in horrible pain! Eight months later, I go in for a CT scan to investigate what was suspected to be a second hernia... SURPRISE!! Inflammation in all three parts of the small intestine, as well as an inflamed Cecum, and Ileocecal valve! IBS?? FAIL!! IBD was the correct diagnosis... It was IBS for about 18 years...

If you haven't, you should see what you can do to have a CT scan of the small bowel, or a Barium follow through.

A colonoscopy does NOT address the small bowel. At best, the GI may get through the Cecum to see a little into the Ileum. My Ileocecal valve is scarred and narrowed so badly now that the scope won't fit.

AFAIK, IBS won't cause the symptoms you are having. Bleeding??? Someone is on Crack... (not you BTW)

Yeah, agreed, if you don't have internal hemmies or something else that explains the bleeding, you need a second opinion. IBS doesn't cause you to bleed. Hope you get some relief soon.

Holy am I in pain today! The last time I went to the hospital for bleeding they checked for hems and I didn't have any, but I did have a fever and high white blood cell count. They did take samples when they did my colonoscopy yesterday, I get the results in 2 weeks. I have constant pain in my lower right side. I think I will ask for some other tests. My GI is pretty good, he told me sometimes it can take a while to find the problem and he won't give up on me. I have 4 people in my family that also have crohns. I just don't understand how I can be in so much pain and have normal results.

Hi Tiffany,
I hope you doing okay! There is nothing worse than having a pain and not being able to find relieve.. I hope something works out for you and it all goes well!
Keep us informed :)

Best Wishes!!
