I was nauseated last night, a few hours after I had 3 oranges. I had a few pieces from each orange but mostly sucked the juice from the slices. Do you find if you chew it enough that you can't get obstructions? I've never had an obstruction but heard you can get it if you eat fruit. I miss fruit so bad I had to eat it! I don't JUST want to eat bananas which help me with energy. I want to eat oranges and watermelon and grapes again! :yfaint:

If you are narrowed you can get an obstruction from anything. Oranges have large seeds and the fibrous membrane which should be avoided if narrowed. Try pulp free OJ.

OMG! It's been ages since last time I had an orange. I can drink the juice anyway.

Avoid Oranges, pinneaple, letuce, spinach, etc. I only can have them ground.

I guess this may be a case where people may be different? I had a lot of narrowing in my terminal ileum before surgery and I still ate all my fruits that I loved. Especially pineapple and purple grapes. Now, after surgery, I eat oranges, pineapple, grapes, I pretty much eat it all.

I would have thought oranges would be OK. You don't swallow the pips, and the skin of the sections is soft enough it should pass through. Whereas something like apple peel that is hard could 'wedge' in place. When I was flaring, oranges were a safe fruit. But to be extra safe I would try to suck the segments and throw as much of the skin away as I could.

They do have a higher fibre content so that could cause issues. If you have issues with fibre there are fruits with lower fibre content such as grapefruit and pineapple.

Oranges are higley acidic and if you have a slight bit of inflamation they would agrivate it quite badly,, hence why the body would want to reject all the acid back out a.s.a.p.

If you are getting nausea with every food tho it may be another matter

3 is quite a lot to eat to be honest i think one slice would get me..

unfortunatly with crohns we do have to sacrifice some of are favorite foods the body just cant tolerate them..

I find watermelon to be excellent and it doesn't cause me any trouble. Don't swallow the pips, of course! It makes a beautiful juice if you blend it and goes well in smoothies. It contains vitamin C in a much milder form than oranges, I find.

If you have narrowing than the fiber in any food will work its way through your system faster creating a bottleneck effect in the narrowed area which will make you feel nauseated or even throw up cause things are backing up. As mentioned try eating smaller quantities to see which ones you can tolerate for now.

I ate an orange about a week after my surgery and i almost ended up back in hospital, it's the white pith (i think that's what it is called) that caused the problem. The same thing happened to my uncle who also has Crohns, so i've not eaten one since.
