i have questions please help

I am getting really frustrated and depressed I dont know what to do
I have had the following symptoms for about 10 years
the urge to have a bowel movement but then nothing comes out
all my bowel movements are incomplete I can never get it all out
If I dont take laxatives all the time I get really hard stool and rectal bleeding
I smell like feces even after a I use the bathroom and take a shower
I have two or three bowel movements a day but I can still feel feces in my rectum all the time
I never have periods of remission
I have tried changes in diet, taking fiber, eating small meals nothing works, everytime I go to a doctor they either dont beleive me or tell me its going to go away.
Has anybody had these symptoms and found a successful way to treat them, especially the incomplete bowel movements, like medication or surgery
please help, thank you

hi snewton, & welcome.

when you say you've been to a doctor, do you mean your gp? if so, then i would suggest its time to move onwards and upwards to a gastro specialist. ten years of symptoms such as this is long enough, too long, to put up with, without investigation , diagnosis, treatment.

plus, taking laxatives on such a regular basis can cause further damage to your body, in more ways than one.

there has to come a time when you remove the importance of opinions from gps who continue to not believe you, and put your trust in physicians who specialise in this area.

trust me, you are not the only one who has had symptoms ignored/disbelieved by a doctor.

everyone has the right to a referral to a specialist, i would say go for it. its not right for you to put up with a reduced quality of life, on your own.

Hi snewton. Welcome to the forum. I echo dingbats sentiments. Many folks on the forum have experienced disbelieving docs, or those who couldn't diagnose the problem. The only real recourse is to demand a referral to a specialist in GI field.

hope things turn around, and someone makes the right diagnosis in near future.

Yeah my GP told me all my problems were in my head.

I have suffered many of those same symptoms you have described. Have you tried miralax. If you can have a day to do nothing then start taking one glass of miralax every hour for five hours or until you have felt you have gotten everything out.

Have you gotten a colonoscopy lately, that feeling can be contributed to a narrowing in the rectum or an abcsess.

Call a GI today

Best of luck

Magnesium can help with BM's. Milk of Magnesia has this as an active ingredient.
Magnesium is an important mineral for general health so it may be a good solution.

You poor thing. I know exactly how you feel, I to had the same sort of simptoms for about 15 years i think, and no doc would believe it was happening. I would have these realy bad bouts where i would get a pain in the tummy, i would sit on the toilet, then the sweating, so bad i would have to strip of on the toilet, (lovelly site), and either have diareah or normal BM, then the sickness would come, i could feel my face drain white and my poor husband would have to hold me up on the toilet because all i wanted to do was lie down, it would last up to anywhere from 15 min's to about 45 min's. when it was over all i could do is lie down till i got my energy back, and the worst thing was the doc would'nt believe me.

I've been fortunate to have a great GI doc who has great answers and solutions (despite the fact that they may not work, that would be the disease's fault, as it's so aggressive, and many patients have to have the medical guessing game going on until something clicks)

I HATE HATE HATE (and many more) the not finished sensation. It's not constipation, it's that constipated diarrhea I always get. I have had Diarrhea for about 8 months now, in varying degrees. But almost always I feel like I'm constipated and backed up while sitting there. Nothing wants to exit, and when it does, it's like the consistency of applesauce (I know graphic and gross). How can something so runny and thin be clogged? WTF?!

I never seem to feel relief either, as when I go I get up and feel that it's a temporary fix.

Welcome, and I suggest a new doc, and make it a GI one.

I think it's because a large piece of stool is stuck so little bits brake off which gives the applesauce consistency. I know exactly what you feel. I have a stricture in my rectum which caused that but it has relaxed a little bit so I'm able to more regularly.

I have no way to prove either way but I strongly doubt it's a large piece of stool, I'm talking almost like soup sometimes. Who knows though. I just can't see it coming from a large stool up there....

I don't know I'm so frustrated by it I'm almost ready to proactively ASK for the abbreviated scope the doc talked about, he said it needs no prep, if I can get answers and a fix, I'm for it.

Abbreviated scope? Did he mean one he can do right in his own examining room?

I had something along that line 'sprung' on me by a local GI here. Went in for what I thought was going to be just an initial consult. Next thing I know he has me up on one of those exam tables... in the curled up position. I'm figuring.. "OK, a rectal.." Wrong. He had a short scope with disposable tip up in me within minutes... All in all, not as bad as a rectal. Certainly way better than a sigmoidoscope. I think that it couldn't have gone much further in than the ailimentary track... thing was only about 1 1/2 - 2 feet long in total. Is that the thing your doc was talking about? If it is, it's no big deal. I didn't have any pain from it, no anesthetic, and I walked out afterwards feeling perfectly A-OK

The doc hasn't gone into too much detail, just that it needs no prep, and doesn't go in all the way. Sounds similar to your procedure. Thanks Kev, sets some of my stress at ease, as long as it's the same experience for me.

How sympomatic were you though for that (I'm getting at what degree of inflammation was present when this was done)?

Extremely. Gushing blood like a geyser. Was told surgery was only solution. So I went to this other GI for a 2nd opinion. Thought wed' just chat about the op, did not expect for him to insist on taking a lookie loo. Glad the underwear was clean
