Hi all I am new to this forum. Let me start out by saying that I am a 55 year old male. What prompted this was the 5 prescriptions I picked up this morning and 3 more in my medicine chest not needing to be refilled. Over the last 10 years or so I have had some sort of GI problem or another it started with 5 blockages in the large intestine and I was hospitalized for each one of them they were resolved without surgery. Next came 2 day of bleeding from my rectum and I mean very heavy bleeding there was no question about it. Then came May of 2010, I do not remember the exact days but I can tell you they were the worst 2 days of my life. The diarrhea started and got so bad it dehydrated even though I was drinking G2 and a lot of water. My body became one large cramp, there wasn't a muscle that did not have a cramp in it. When my wife got me to the ER they could not even put me on a gurney until they gave me 2 shots one for pain and one to relax my muscles. It was this time in the hospital that they said that I had Crohn's. When I left the hospital I was on Pentasa 500mg 2x a day and Predisone 40mg a day. My 2nd flare up was in Feb. of 2011 and I was in the hospital for 8 days before they got me right and now I am still on the Pentasa, down to 5mg on Predisone, and have added 6mp.
Well for my first post here I guess this is long enough

Hi Mike and welcome,

I feel you brother :( I'm sorry you're having to go through all of this.

EIGHT prescriptions though? I assume some of those are for other problems (non Crohns) being treated?

I'm glad you found your way here. We're here for you anytime!

Hello Mike and welcome to the Forum! :)
Sounds like you have been through the wringer and I know it ain't fun!
I understand about the 5 scripts and the Pentasa,
the doc may keep you on. I'm on the sister one to that, Asacol.
It's used to maintain a remission and keep you stabilized.
Getting down to 5mg of Pred is a good thing.
It's so tough to get off that stuff but it can be a lifesaver!

You are welcome to come in and voice any concerns you have
or just to vent Mike.

We're all in this boat together. Hang in there.

Welcoming hugs~Nancy

HI Mike and welcome!

Sorry you have such a load of things to deal with. I hope that adding the 6MP to your med cocktail does the trick and makes you feel better!!

Good luck! - Amy
