Hi everyone,
To give you a small introduction [from a very long story], I've had crohn's disease since 2011; I was 23 years old. I live in the New York City region. I'm trying to find a good New York City gastroenterologist, maybe even an MD who specializes in crohn's disease.
I've had three gastroenterologists on Long Island. The first one diagnosed me and put me on Pentasa. But the staff were incompetent. They would consistently neglect to put in an order for my medication and sometimes I would go a week or two without it.
The second gastro was good, but always wanted colonoscopies done. I've had one in 2011 [I am currently 28 years old], and my condition is deemed 'mild'. He added entocort to my medication and I was on that for about a year. During that time, I had a flare about once a month. He wanted to take me off the entocort because I couldn't stay on that forever and to switch me to Humira. I changed my health insurance though and he was not in my network, so I had to switch doctors.
The third gastro put me on Humira. At first, it started to work well (I took four in the start-up kit), but my flare-ups have become more consistent as I only take it once every two weeks, in addition to Apriso [it is the equivalent of Pentasa.] I have brought this up to my gastro's attention, but he does not comment. In addition to several other things happening, I really want to find someone who is in the know regarding Crohn's Disease and its developments.
Please list any doctors you know who are specialists in this area, who are personable, knowledgeable and I can reach out to. Your assistance will be greatly appreciated. My goal is to really achieve remission, but also have a doctor I can talk to.
