I started flaring in October 2008 and along with the flare stopped getting my period. It's been 3 months now with no period. I was wondering if anybody knew if I could still get pregnant without my period??

if your trying for a baby, i suggest you talk with our doctor and stoma nurse. as any growing baby will need close medical support.

As Sharon said, you need to talk to your doctor.

I may be wrong, but it seems unlikely that you will get pregnant if you are not having your period and ovulating.
It may be a symptom of something else, therefore you must speak to your doctor.

Thanks for your responses. I'm not trying for a baby right now as I am still not back to health, this has been my worst flare yet. But anyways, this is probably a question for my obgyn.

I would think it would still be possible to get pregnant. My GI told me it was absolutely not a good idea to get pregnant while flaring. He recommended I talk to my OBGYN about birth control. At that time I wasn't getting my period either.

Just an update... I spoke with my OBGYN and she told me that yes I can still be ovulating and get pregnant while I'm not getting my period.

The question is are you ovulating and that doesn't always have the same answer as are you having periods. Even if you have stopped ovulating, unless you're confirmed to be in menopause, you don't know when you'll start again and that ovulation may be the one that gets you pregnant.

I think that it wasn't necessarily the flaring that stopped my period, but the dramatic weight loss which caused too much stress on my body.

Even just emotional stress can cause you to miss a period. The menstral cycle is a very fickle thing.

Yep - know what u mean.
i was diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis back in April 2008.
Have not had a period since.
I am 42 years old - seems a little young 4 menopause.
I guess its from the cocktail of meds i am currently taking.
BTW - i don't want it back - don't need em.
