 Hiya Guys
I was recently put on Ciprofloxacin for an ear infection and lone-behold! All of my gastro-issues disappeared! I literally - and I mean literally - spent a week dancing around my house  but then, on day 3 after finishing the Cipro... back to the "norm" - I was actually in the waiting room to see an Occupational Health professional for my work and had to run around the top floor looking for a toilet (no signs?!). He said this was significant and to go back to my GP ASAP and get back on the Cipro, which I did later that day as my ear infection still hadn't cleared as well. I'm now on 2 weeks more before the hell starts up again.
I thought: this HAS to be relevant - I've been having major sharp pain LRQ the last few weeks and the Cipro fixed everything whilst I was on it - these had to be relevant. Apparently not:
Thank you for your email and the interesting responce to Ciprofloxacin.
Some people with Crohns will find this treatment useful monotherapy but in itself
I would disagree with the opinion of the Occupational Health GP.
The symptom change might be co-incidental or the antibiotic treating small bowel overgrowth instead.
I would note that the tests to date; colonoscopy, MRI-small bowel and capsule which are the gold
standard tests for Crohns disease are negative.
The Calprotectin test was positive but its a test of high sensitivity but low specificity, meaning a lot of
false positives.
Might you consider some probiotics such as Symprove (Symprove.com) that might competitively
inhibit bacterial triggers.
Have you tried a gluten free diet and if so what response did you get
~This is a little frustrating as I did explain I was dairy, gluten (all cereals), yeast etc free for about 3 years now, so he hasn't listened to a word I've said. I also told him I take probiotics.
Why am I bothering? I feel like he thinks I just want to prove I have Crohns and he just has to disprove it and everything is OK. Someone needs to hand him a dictionary of what DIAGNOSTICIAN means. I don't mind what is wrong - whatever it is, I am already suffering it - it's not my job to be made to feel like a hypochondriac and offered acupuncture... it's his job to investigate what's wrong and listen to me when I can offer information that might help :voodoo:
I am not looking forward to in 2 weeks' time
