well, my latest test results are that my TSH are very low. Apparently thyroid is also an autoimmune disease and attacks your own body. Anyone else?? I am just being watched with many blood tests. This would explain my absolute exhaustion.

Hi, I have hypothyroidism.
Low TSH would maybe suggest hyperthyroid rather than hypo.
TSH is thyroid stimulating hormone which is produced by the pituitary gland and basically does what it says.
If you are hypo then there isn't enough thyroxine being produced, this in turn is sensed by the pituitary which attempts to correct the imbalance by releasing more TSH, hence low TSH is idicative of hyperthyroidism and the reverse is true.

However, endocrinology is very complex but i'm sure they'll work out whats going on, good luck with it.

lol..."idiots"... :D

Im okay, thanks for asking Mayflower. Just a little frustrated about my life revolving around so much medical talk and illness. Went camping (in cabins) for a week. All was okay except for my back. It always hurt but literally brought me to my knees once. Embarrassing... it usually just hurt when I stood (or tried).

Thyroid thing was in my mailbox when I returned. I am STILL not on anything for IBD and the docs want me to have a repeat MRI on the 21st and also 2 blood works done... on my TSH. No idea what that means except it has something to do with my thyroid. I know nothing about thyroid disease .. except it makes you really very tired and you can either gain a lot of weight or lose a lot of weight... thats all I know...OH and it is a autoimmune disease as well (unless of course it was damaged...)

Hope you are well Mayflower.
Thanks G. I can see that it is complex. Hopefully they will figure this all out soon as the oral thrush continues..along with the mouth sores. Seems like it's never ending and I just want some "treatment" instead of constant testing. I have been tested since February. Found out I have IBD in June.... WTF???

Hi Keona,

I was diagnosed and treated for graves disease. I had radioactive iodine to kill off the thyroid. I take a thyroid replacement daily. The symptoms of graves were really tough to handle. It feels like you are on speed 24/7. It is indeed autoimmune and no fun at all. Especially since I was also having CD symptoms on top of the graves. I wasn't properly diagnosed with CD for a couple of years after the graves disease.

I just got some really crappy "no pun intended" genes.

I *think* I was misdiagnosed with Grave's disease, but my GP still says I have it. (I don't think so)
I was hyperthyroid at the same time as I was trying to get diagnosed with Crohn's. Having two things at the same time made for a difficult diagnosis, but it did eventually happen.
I was on beta-blockers for quite a while, and my GP handed me a prescription to get my thyroid ablated. I held off on that due to the inability to cuddle my toddler for at least a week after that procedure was to take place due to the amount of radiation and the time it takes to leave the body.
Eventually, my hyperthyroid symptoms just went away. It did happen one more time since then, but disappeared again. I heard somewhere that it ws just a thyroid infection that made it act up, but my GP still calls it Grave's disease. I haven't had any probs with it in at least 6 years, so I guess I don't really know.

I am not at all familiar with thyroid issies, Wendy, but I am sorry to hear you're still searching for answers. Thinking about you!! I was wondering where you've been! Keep us updated. I'm always around to vent to :)

Hey Wendy!! Glad you're back!! You didn't hurt your back doing all that climbing or zip-lining or whatever you were doing in your fb pic did you?

Did you ever try the hp mouthwash? EJ was having multiple tongue sores weekly until he started taking a B-complex vit and regularly rinsing with a hp based mouthwash. I don't think he had thrush though. He's only had one of the tongue bumps since then.

Sorry, I can't help with the thyroid question. Good luck!! What did you decide about the camera?

Hello Keona,

Sorry to hear of all of your troubles! I am just recently diagnosed w/IBD/CD.. when i was first referred to the colorectal specialist he felt my thyroids and asked if i had ever had them checked before. I said.. no (thinking why would i have??) then he told me I had an enlarged right thyroid. Not sure what this means yet. But I had to have surgery for a mass/abscess/fistula this past Aug. I went for Pre-op the week before and the hospital did the TSH test (think thats the one for thyroid) with the bloodwork. My levels came back as 0.62 (with the norm showing to be between 0.49 to 4.67) Mind you i did not fast the day before or that day. I ate regularly.. and It is a bit bothersome to me because I dont know if this means anything yet. I've put on a few lbs since finding out about the Crohns.. and having surgery. I'm hoping it was just the pain meds, b/c I do not like to feel like my tummy is swollen all the time! ** Oh and sorry for the long post.. :) ** On another note.. I had the mouth thrush early Aug.. and my PCP gave me an rx for Nystatin solution. you swish it in your mouth and gargle with it, then swallow it - a few times/day. (i know doesn't sound pleasant) .. But it worked! Hope you find all of your answers! and best wishes!

Also, for the mouth sores.. see about a rx called Traimcinolone paste. It's a dental paste my colorectal surgeon recently prescribed and works wonders. I had some on my tongue after surgery. It sticks to the inflamed area and clears it within a few days. Seriously good to know!! I thought it was from not being able to keep food down and the acid in my stomach.. but it is apparently a side effect of Crohns.. :)

Thanks everyone. I am hoping I can have things sorted out on the 21st of September as I am having my 2nd MRI to see if anything has changed. I will have 2 blood tests specifically for TSH.. so Im not so sure whats going on.

I definitely don't have Graves disease if you feel like you're on speed. I am the opposite and sleep a lot or just have zero energy.

MyButtHurts - awe that is sad :( I have a friend who had the radiation pill thing and she wasnt allowed to be around people for 11 days. The whole concept was a little scary. I cant imagine not being able to hold your baby for that time.

VintageAnn - I think I have some pretty "Crappy" genes also :D

HAHA Dexty - no, I was doing high ropes. It was walking on a catwalk and rickety bridge 70 feet up in the air. (you are harnessed in with people below belaying). My back always hurt but I think I aggravated it by sleeping in cabins (so on a mattress on wood). I also slept in a sleeping bag in the woods (by MYSELF I might add) on the ground with just a tarp so I could see the stars. There was a tent nearby just in case. It was cold and damp.
Yes, I did get the mouthwash but still get the oral thrush and mouth sores. I don't think the sores last as long though. Thanks for the suggestion - I will be buying it from now on.

I ended up getting the Nikon D-40. AWESOME :) It is soooo much quicker and I like that you can trim the pics right on the camera :D

Hi Girlygirl - yep...VERY familiar with Nystatin. In fact, I have 3 bottles in my refrigerator right now. Very very sweet after awhile but doesnt seem to do much for me. I have also tried the dyfulcan... (SP). and other things...it goes and just comes back.
I will ask about the paste your doctor prescribed for you.. I will try anything. I hope you are feeling better after your surgery!

Thanks everyone..I am just waiting until Sept 21st and if I dint get help then I am going to switch doctors. It has been a long time since I have had any help with any of this and just test after test without any follow-up.

Just wondering about the thyroid issue....

Keona.. quick ? .. you keep yours in the fridge? I just have my nystatin in the cabinet. Ekes. It didn't say to refrigerate on the bottle so I didn't. Does it keep better that way?
Thanks for thinking of me! I am feeling better day by day after the surgery. Just feel swollen still.. and fatigued.
And I hope things look up for you, and I hope you get some good solid answers on the 21st!
Best Wishes! :)

I had hyperthyroid when I was in highschool. I do not remember all the details but for some reason I got the side effects of hypo though. I took meds for a few years and then it corrected itself. I havent had any issues in about 12 yrs.
